From now through May 31, 2013, fly as a passenger on any qualifying transatlantic round-trip flight operated by British Airways, American Airlines, Iberia, and OpenSkies in any cabin class and earn either 20,000 bonus Avios or American Airlines AAdvantage frequent flier loyalty program miles — and if you are a passenger on five qualifying transatlantic round-trip flights in any cabin class, you will earn an extra bonus of 100,000 miles in either program, bringing the grand total to 200,000 Avios or American Airlines AAdvantage frequent flier loyalty program miles.

You must first register for the promotion, as existing reservations cannot be retroactively qualified for this promotion. Itineraries must originate and terminate in the United States or Canada, in addition to Mexico for the American Airlines version of this promotion. You must be a resident of the United States and Canada who is 18 year of age or older and is a member of either the British Airways Executive Club or American Airlines AAdvantage frequent flier loyalty programs.

While you can earn the bonus miles in any cabin class, the eligible fare classes for the promotion are as follows:

  • British Airways F, A, J, C, D, R, I, W, E, T, Y, B or H
  • American Airlines F, A, J, R, D, I, Y, B or H
  • Iberia J, C, D, R, I or Y
  • OpenSkies J, C, D, R, I, W, E, T, Y, B or H

This means that the airfare class must be a minimum of either flexible or non-restricted economy class airfares. Discount Economy class fares — including those booked or sold in K, M, L, V, S, N, Q, O, or G fare classes on British Airways — do not qualify for this offer.

A one-time bonus of 100,000 miles will be awarded after completion of the fifth round-trip itinerary. Bonus frequent flier loyalty program miles do not count toward elite status qualification or Million Miler status. This promotion cannot be combined with any other offer. Other terms and restrictions apply.

It looks like this is geared primarily at passengers flying discount business fares – the requirement for an H fare in coach rules out most leisure travelers.

Yes, I got this as an email from AA entitled simply “Fly from Los Angeles to Europe and Earn 200,000 Miles”, but American should be able to know from my records that I’ve never ever ever bought any fares ANYWHERE CLOSE TO the H and above that are required for this promo. So IMHO their email title was a lie (it should have siad “you MAY be able to earn”), since JUST flying from Los Angeles to Eruope will earn me no such thing.

    Just another very stupid promo
