Up to 40% Discount and Double Stay Credit During the Hilton Any Weekend, Anywhere Sale

You can earn between 15 percent and 40 percent off the Bed and Breakfast rates or the best available room rates at participating Hilton Worldwide hotel and resort properties during the Any Weekend, Anywhere Sale — and, as a bonus, earn double stay credit towards Hilton HHonors VIP elite status as well. You must book your room reservation between now and January 31, 2013 for stays through December 31, 2013 — except for hotel properties in the Asia Pacific region, whose reservations deadline is February 14, 2013.

Compared to the Any Weekend, Anywhere Sale of last year, this promotion started earlier, offers a greater maximum discount, and you earn double stay credit instead of 1,000 bonus Hilton HHonors frequent guest loyalty program points.

Here is the breakdown of the minimum and maximum discounts offered per region:

  • Europe 20 percent — 40 percent
  • Middle East and Africa 33 percent — 40 percent
  • Asia Pacific 20 percent — 25 percent
  • North America and South America 15 percent

Within those regions, the discounts also vary by hotel brand.

There is one major issue I have with this otherwise potentially rewarding promotion, according to the full terms and conditions:

Full non-refundable prepayment required at time of booking. Your credit card will be charged immediately for the total amount quoted for the entire stay as reserved and refunds or credits will not be issued unless otherwise indicated by local law.  Charges cannot be applied to other stays, services or merchandise. Booking cannot be changed. Must book at least seven (7) days in advance of arrival, except as noted below for properties within Europe Middle East, Africa, Asia Pacific regions.”

This is a deal breaker for me, which is the main reason why I did not participate in this promotion last year and will not participate in it this year. Unless I am absolutely certain that I will be in that room I reserved, I never book pre-paid non-refundable room reservations — especially when most of the time, the savings are not that significant when compared to refundable room rates. If you do not show up for your room reservation for any reason, you supposedly lose your entire payment — although I would suspect that if your reason is good enough, you probably can have the issue resolved in your favor.

To receive the double stay credit, your eligible stay must be a minimum of two consecutive nights, and your reservation must be booked through Hilton Worldwide direct booking channels. This means that you can earn:

  • Silver Hilton HHonors VIP elite status with two two-night stays
  • Gold Hilton HHonors VIP elite status with eight two-night stays
  • Diamond Hilton HHonors VIP elite status with fourteen two-night stays

Assuming that an inexpensive stay at the Hampton Inn Atlanta/Peachtree Corners/Norcross is $53.10 per night, the stay comes to $120.00 total — ignoring the miscalculation shown below where a penny is inexplicably added to the total:

This means that, by using this example:

  • Silver Hilton HHonors VIP elite status will cost $240.00
  • Gold Hilton HHonors VIP elite status will cost $960.00
  • Diamond Hilton HHonors VIP elite status will cost $1,680.00

In this case, there are less-expensive ways to attain Hilton HHonors VIP elite status — such as the Hilton HHonors card by American Express — which charge you no annual fee, and the Hilton HHonors Surpass card from American Express, which charges a $75.00 annual fee. You can compare both cards to consider which one is right for you. You could also consider the Citi Hilton HHonors Reserve credit card, which has a $95.00 annual fee but instant Gold Hilton HHonors VIP elite status as long as you have the credit card, and Diamond Hilton HHonors VIP elite status when spending $40,000.00 per year annually.

No bonus Hilton HHonors frequent guest loyalty program points will be awarded during this promotion. This offer is not valid if any other Hilton HHonors stay credit offer applies to the reservation, nor is it eligible for promotions which require registration before booking your reservation.

However, a weekend is defined by this promotion as Thursday through Sunday, which does offer some flexibility. Other terms and conditions apply, and not all Hilton Worldwide hotel and resort properties are participating.

If you are absolutely certain that your plans will not change, then this promotion could be lucrative for you — especially if you want Hilton HHonors VIP elite status at discounted rates and do not have a credit card branded for the Hilton HHonors frequent guest loyalty program which can earn you elite status. Otherwise, I would not recommend participating in this promotion if you are not already planning to stay at Hilton Worldwide hotel and resort properties — in other words, it is not worth reserving and paying for rooms through this promotion just to attain Hilton HHonors VIP elite status.
