Because of the potential threat of the storm which includes Hurricane Sandy as an element, people based or residing in portions of New York City which are within Zone A — indicated by the interactive map below — are ordered by Michael Bloomberg, the mayor of New York City, to evacuate by 7:00 Eastern Daylight Time this evening.
Neither Fiorello LaGuardia Airport nor John F. Kennedy International Airport are located within Zone A. That does not mean that they will be unaffected by the upcoming storm to say the least, but evacuations will be ordered from both airports if Zone B is included in the evacuation zone. Still, expect both airports to eventually be closed. The subway transit system is expected to shut down as well due to weather for only the second time in its history of 108 years.
