Starwood Hotels & Resorts’ robust growth continues throughout North America this year, with a major milestone on the way.

In North America, Starwood Hotels & Resorts anticipates that 2015 will be another banner year of growth, with the company expecting to exceed a milestone of 600 hotels in the next two months alone. Fueling the growth is rapid expansion of the Specialty Select and Upper Upscale brands, as well as an increased popularity and demand for luxury lodging.

According to Simon Turner, Starwood’s president of global development, North America accounts for 50 percent of the company’s worldwide portfolio. Just last year, Starwood opened 23 hotels in North America and signed deals for an additional 64, leading to a 23 percent signing increase over 2013.

In a press release announcing the company’s ambitious expectations for 2015, Turner stated:

The ongoing economic recovery and increased availability of financing are creating favorable conditions, contributing to strong growth across all three segments of our business and a notable surge in demand for new-build hotels, which comprised 81 percent of our North America signings in 2014.

The Specialty Select brands — Four Points by Sheraton, Aloft and Element — are on track to open their 200th hotel this year. The Upper Upscale brands — Sheraton, Westin and Le Méridien — will pass a mark of more than 625 hotels by 2016.

“We highly value our relationships with our owners and franchisees, and continue to see strong interest from partners looking to leverage Starwood’s powerful brands and network, global booking platforms and loyal customer base,” said Allison Reid, Starwood’s senior vice president of North America development.
