In Brief: N. Korea Expected to Soon Lift Tourism Ban Prompted by Ebola

According to a Beijing-based travel agency, North Korea is expected to lift a ban that has prevented tourists from entering the country over fear of Ebola since October 2014. Koryo Tours, which is one of only a few agencies that offer regular tours to the country, claims it was contacted by the National Tourism Administration in Pyongyang concerning “some movement” on the ban.

A portion of the statement released by the agency on Monday reads: “We were told we should expect confirmation later today with details of the country’s plan for reopening the border.”

There is no timeline on when the ban will be lifted. Currently, anyone entering North Korea, including foreign diplomats, must undergo a 21-day quarantine period.
