Airline Teams Up With Google to Offer Virtual Tours of New Cabin Interiors

SAS gets creative and uses Google Street View to offer a virtual tour of newly refurbished cabin interiors.

Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) used Google Street View to create a

n online virtual tour accentuating the newly refurbished cabin interiors on its Airbus A330s. According to a press release, the carrier is the first European airline to use Google Street View to create an interior cabin tour.

The interactive interface allows users to move freely about the aircraft’s cabins, and the sharp, high-resolution images are far more accurate than a standard web photo. Google Street View’s 360-degree capabilities allow viewers to rotate the images, and the zoom feature allows for close-up views with little or no distortion.

The comprehensive tour showcases the SAS Business, SAS Plus and SAS Go cabins, from both sitting and standing positions respectively. The tour also takes virtual travelers through the main cabin entryway, galley, lavatories and more. General information on such topics as in-flight services and cabin materials is provided, as are links to additional relevant videos.

SAS has invested heavily in upgrading its long-haul cabins and is not afraid of looking at new ways to spread the message. “We are constantly striving to create new and innovative digital solutions for our customers, so we are very proud that SAS is the first airline in Europe to let everyone see what it is like to travel with SAS using Google Street View,” said Stefan Hedelius, vice president of brand and marketing at SAS.

Creative as this virtual tour may be, SAS is not the first airline to use Google Street View to accentuate cabin interiors. In 2013, Emirates teamed-up with Google to show case it’s A380‘s interior.
