free Dr. pepper on November 23

When buzz started circulating earlier this year that 2008 might finally see the release of the long-delayed Guns N' Roses album Chinese Democracy, the folks who make Dr. Pepper made an unusual promise: if Axl Rose could actually get it together and put the album out before the year was out, they would give everyone in America a Dr. Pepper.

Now that a release date for Chinese Democracy has been set, Dr. Pepper is making good on its offer. For 24 hours on November 23, the day the album is due to hit the shelves at Best Buy, visitors to DrPepper.com will be able to register and download a coupon for a free soft drink.

Sorry, fellow Canadians: looks like the offer will only be good in the United States.

My son is a big Dr. P fan. ^

Reminds me of the Sean P. Diddy Combs statement from a few years ago.

While my (detribalized Texan) wife loves Dr. Pepper to the point of having us make the pilgrimage to Dublin (no, not that Dublin) back in 2002, most people who hail from northern climes find the quaff bilious.

I first got hooked on Dr Pepper when I was almost 13, in 1971. We had moved from Illinois to Houston for a brief period. There was a 7-11 just around the corner from our house. We didn't have much money and I would return the empty glass bottles I had found between our house and the store, in order to have money to purchase a bottle of my newly found friend.
Oddly enough, I stopped drinking it as much when we returned to Illinois.

What a time. 13... summer... puppy love... 7-11 ... Slurpees and Dr Pepper.
Where have the years gone?

Just a reminder, it's now active. As you might expect, the web site is running really really slowly.

Geez, I have to wait 4-6 weeks for my coupon. I wanted one now, to drink while watching football today.

I requested the coupon at 12:05am EST, and the website was already running slow. (I had to hit "Submit" twice before I got a confirmation message.) Can't imagine what "prime time" is going to be fun.

Umm, it's slow.

I'll wait until later tonight.
