Bare Escentuals have been around for a while, now mineral makeup seems to have taken over the industry.
Anybody tried these and is one brand better than another? Am looking at the BE Get Started kit, because the concept of all these different powders is hard for me to get a handle on. I was looking at Loreal on a BOGO sale, but it seemed you need 5 or 6 of these jars of stuff.
Any suggestions, comments? Or should I just say no?
I use it and love it. I suggest you go to a store where you can have them find the correct color for your skin. if you don't have a store, I think some sets come with a DVD so that you can see how to apply it correctly.
Good brushes make a big difference, and you might want to buy the minerals, but upgrade to better quality brushes. After all, we are all about upgrades, aren't we?
Check QVC and see if they have an upcoming BE show where you can watch how it's done. A little goes a long way, when it comes to application. You can always add more, so it is better to use a little and then add if needed. When you get the hang of it, you will find it is really quick and easy.
I bought one of the nylon zippered, expandable BE fitted travel cases they sell on QVC, and I keep duplicates of everything in it with travel sized brushes that fit in the case because they have shorter handles.
Hope you like it, and thanks for the Kindle alert....I bought one, and love it!
Lili, I've been wondering about mineral makeup too. I checked a bit online and have gotten good recs for a company called Everyday Minerals. What I really like is that you can get free samples so test out the whole idea first: https://www.everydayminerals.com/ind...d=26&Itemid=40
I'm not 100% sold but so far so good...
Pro: no liquid so there's one fewer item in my kippie bag
Con: not as neat and tidy as my liquid foundation, may be accentuating my large pores
The BE product called "Mineral Veil" diminishes the look of large pores. It really is like air brushing your face. Again....a very light hand is better than too much product.

Try it - you will love it
My son has lived in the US for 6 years and I visit at least twice a year, I used to see those BE infomercials and say this looks too good to be true! I then saw it on QVC, so eventually I went to the BE Philly store and had the girls make me up. I was sold. I now use only mineral make up. You dont get any "tide" marks, you can blend colours, it really is as good as the infomercials say !!
For travelling I use the Neutrogena mineral make up - it comes in a small tube with its own brush attached - even easier than the BE travel pack. And you can buy the Neutrogena anywhere. I have also tried the Almay mineral make up - it seems good too.
So try a BE store - there are several now, or a Sephora - they will also show how to do it, watch QVC - and get hooked on it to.
QVC has BE on this Saturday 7 June, 3 hours in the afternoon !! You should get the hang of it after 3 hours.

Reason: adding extra comment
I love my liquid foundation, but have been thinking about making the switch to mineral just for travel. I am going to test out the Prestige drugstore brand -- people say that it is good for pore minimizing, and it certainly is cheaper than the BE stuff. Anecdotally, I have heard that people prefer the Everyday Minerals brand to the BE stuff for sensitive skin. I have the little Neutrogena tube that rojaan has referred to -- it's ok, but I absolutely despise the packaging, so I'm looking elsewhere. I bought it out of desperation because I had to travel the day the complete liquid ban went into effect, and it does the job, but I'd like something better.
Try a local day spa / salon that sells Bare Escentuals. I got a free 30 minute lesson before buying the starter kit (for no more $ than any other retailer). The salon also offered a free 15 minute follow up if needed.
The only think I don't like is the itchy feeling I get when I sweat. I'm told that a small % of women get the itchy feeling, unfortunately I'm one of them.

You might want to try Colore Science Suncanny Face Colore SPF 20 Sun Protectant Powder. It is very water resistant, broad spectrum UVA/UVB. It comes in metal tubes with a screw on lid. Inside is a retractable dispensing brush of goat hair. Refulls are available.
I carried it in my purse when I was in Turkey last summer, and used it to keep from getting sunburned. It is very easy to apply, and I carry a color called Invisibly Matte in my purse and in my car. Unlike suntan lotions, there is no greasy feel.
Any mineral makeup should be set with a mist of water. It wll make it last all day. Delta used to have a Cucumber Facial Mist in their BE amenity kits, and it was a perfectly sized little bottle. I think just plain water works, too.

Thank you Dorlee. You look gorgeous, just what BE promises. I saw the infomercial on QVC a few years ago, but it was one of those "if it looks to good to be true.." events.
Good advice to find a store.Well, I can go to the source and visit my sons in SF.
Thank you all. Until the sudden explosion in the market for minerals I thought this was a weird product. Now I am starting to think about how yet another woman entrepentuer has been not bought out, but pre-empted in the market. They are taking her idea and the older cosmetic firms are making a fortune.
fair skinned redhead here - do minerals cover freckles? sun spots? what base gives you good coverage?
Another fair skinned redhead here. I LOVE Bare Escentuals. I use the bisque to cover my always red nose, then a powder for the whole face and finally the mineral veil. It's the only product I'll use. It covers freckles, rosecea, and more without looking like makeup.

Hope that helps!
Thanks for the link. I ordered the free sample. I've used BE for years but it is expensive compared to some of the newer products.
