Blue eyed, fair skinned brunette here! Have used BE for years. One of the great things is that it truly doesn't matter if you fall asleep with it on - I don't usually but I've had some late night casino/too much wine nights where I have. I usually order from www.skinstore.com because I know which products to get. When I first started using it I went to a BE store and had them show me what I should use.
I had a make-up artist demonstrate the mineral make-up on me twice. But, the fact remains, the way it looks under the special light and after the hand of an artist, is not the way it will look in bright daylight, applied by you, unless you are yourself a gifted artist. I was horrified when I realized what it "really" looked like -- clumpy, uneven, just awful. Just say no. It's fine for eye make-up but the foundation is unacceptable for mature skin. Ugh. Run, run, run. It's a lot of money for something you'll regret. At least, that's my experience, and I can only report my own experience. Also, there's a lot of "fibbing" that goes on. There is nothing inherently safer about having mica or other minerals on your skin compared to other make-ups. Ever seen mica under a microscope? The TSA hates me but IMHO liquid foundation is still the best unless your skin is pretty much perfect.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who has noticed this. It doesn't just accentuate large pores but fine lines too. That's more than a "con" -- it's a deal killer.

I was excited about mineral makeup, especially since one of my friends who can't stand the feel of most makeup ("I want to rip my face off!" she says) wears it. For her it really is an improvement over a bare face. I had so much invested in other makeup, though, that I put the idea on the back burner.
One day as I wandered around Paula Begoun's website looking for sunscreen recommendations, I stumbled on her review of Bare Escentuals products. In it, she asks, "Getting back to the mineral claims. Is there anything to them?" Here's her answer:
Ms. JPT started using this stuff about a year ago, and she loves it. She said just last week that it seems more comfortable in hot/humid weather, as she feels her skin can 'breathe' more easily. She's got an olive complexion, being Hispanic, but IIRC these makeups are available for a wide variety of skin tones.
She uses the Costco store brand; sometimes they have special in-store promotions.
I had some press events to attend overseas. I have never used foundation before, but realized that if folks were going to be photographing me, or I'd be interviewing all day long, I'd want my makeup to last. Hence, foundation.
Last year, I bought a starter kit of BE as I was running low on the Prescriptives stuff and wanted to try something different.
Comparing them, BE covers less well and the difference between applying too little and too much is a fine line I have to carry not only the base foundation but mineral veil, plus the brushes for them. With the Prescriptives compact, that's all I need.
At the end of the day, using BE with mineral veil, my oily forehead and nose are shiny. There's a faint sheen with Prescriptives and it just feels less oily.
Both feel equally light and fresh all day. I've fallen asleep with them on and not had the stuff rub off onto white linens or cause breakouts.
Prescriptives is SPF 12; BE is SPF 15. I tan easily and haven't noticed any issues with either one causing "glasses X" on the bridge of my nose
Prescriptives cost more for the compact, but it comes with an applicator. BE is less expensive, but requires you to buy a separate brush applicator.
Bottom line: when I run out of BE, I'll go back to Prescriptives.
Fair skin with brown hair here. Skin very oily, with large pores and a few freckles. Liquid foundation turns orange on my skin, no matter what, and I really dislike the feeling of it.
I've tried several brands of mineral make-up and in the end didn't like any of them as much as I like the product that I've been using for well over a decade now, Lancome's Dual Finish. It's a powder and comes in a compact. I apply it with the pad that comes with it, but have considered using a brush instead. It gives good coverage for freckles, etc. and doesn't make my pores look as large as the mineral products did.
Those of you who have oily skin might want to check out another product, Clean & Clear Oil Absorbing Sheets. You blot the oily areas and reapply a bit of powder if you think you need it (you may not). I've tried other blotters as well as "mattifying" toners and moisturizers, and find these the best.

How many husbands know this? Very impressed how in tune you are with your wife's makeup preferences.

Oh my! Why was I expecting an overwhelming yes or no? Seems like a 50/50 split.
Sounds like it's worth a try and thanks for the Costco information. Never occurred to me to look for makeup there, just hope it doesn't come in a 3-pack. Costco $29.95, BE $59.95.
If you see me in an airport and I have huge pores and sparkly funny color all over my face please speak up and direct me to the restroom to wash it off.
Thanks for the input. Any special advice regarding color selection? The Costo video seems to use it for everything including nail polish.
Since you're heading off to Costco anyway, I have to put in a vote for their makeup brush set. I think they are well made and the price can't be beat. The set comes with short fat little 'kabuki' brush that is great for mineral makeup.
Seems like people w dry skin or large pores don't fare as well with the mineral stuff and definitely fall into the 'no' camp.
I have very oily skin and I swear by BE. Every liquid foundation literally melted off my face and made my skin feel like I was wearing make up.
Admittedly, at first when I used it, it made my already large pores look huge!!! But after a few days, that was gone. This stuff has really helped my skin and I get compliments all the time on how good my skin looks. It does take a bit of practice in the application, but so does using a liquid foundation.....shrugs...... practice makes perfect and I have perfect skin! LOL I really love the eye shadows as well.

Oh........BE is on QVC tomorrow!
Thank you, Emerald City!
And other oily skin women: you will be rewarded! I'm old. Read: very old (67). But my teen-age oily skin has now become "supple" . But be warned: it does nothing for the sagging or the jowls. Just deal with it --- omigod, I just saw Mark Shields on TV and he looks like my double!!
