I just logged onto my account and there is a link to an announcement about no more expiry on WJ$ (some exceptions) effective June 6,2017.

Might just be Ontario as it was a provincial court decision. I log on and still see expiring Westjet dollars

This is what my account shows, and I'm not Ontario based...

You don't have any expiring WestJet dollars at this time. You can learn more about WestJet dollar expiry here.

Effective June 6, 2017, we’ve made some changes to WestJet dollar expiry. Most WestJet dollars no longer expire, but some still will. We can explain.

WestJet dollars directly earned from purchase transactions with WestJet or its partners, including a WestJet Credit Card, will no longer expire. We refer to these as base WestJet dollars as they represent the base amount, or minimum, you earn on eligible transactions.

Bonus WestJet dollars awarded through promotions, compensation, or limited-time promotional offers will continue to have expiry dates.

Need an example?
Let’s say you’re a Teal Rewards member and you’ve paid for and taken a flight with WestJet – the base amount of WestJet dollars you earned (i.e. 1% back in WestJet dollars on WestJet flights) are yours to keep for as long as you want, and use however you’d like. No expiry. Then, on your next trip you decide to take advantage of a Rewards offer which awards bonus WestJet dollars. The bonus WestJet dollars you’ve been awarded will have an expiry date. So basically, base WestJet dollars don’t expire; bonus WestJet dollars do.

I'm guessing RBC Avion points transferred to WJ$ fall under the expiry category.

Why guess? Why not just read the FAQ?

Hello everyone, thank you for your continued support in WestJet Rewards.

Effective June 6th, 2017 WestJet Rewards made some changes and removed the expiry on most WestJet dollars and this applies to all members, not just residents of Ontario! WestJet dollars directly earned from purchase transactions with WestJet, WestJet Vacations or WestJet partners (including WestJet RBC MasterCard) will no longer expire. We refer to these as Base WestJet dollars as they represent the base amount, or minimum, you earn on eligible transactions. Bonus WestJet dollars awarded through promotions, compensation, or limited-time promotional offers will continue to have expiry dates.

For all other questions please go to www.westjet.com/en-ca/about-us/contact-us/faqs/westjet-rewards or you can of course follow this FlyerTalk forum.

Dana | Rewards Sr. Specialist

So when someone uses WestJet dollars, are the lines that will expire first the ones that are used first? Is this automatic?

Again that's answered in the linked FAQ:

How can I ensure that I use expiring WestJet dollars first when I redeem?

We take care of that for you. All of WestJet’s booking systems are configured to automatically use the earliest expiring WestJet dollars first. All you need to do is decide where and when you want to go.
