My partner and I status matched at the same time. He got the mailed package (vouchers and luggage tags) and I received only the online welcome (seat and lounge vouchers).

IIRC the Plus vouchers were only good after the flight closed (45-60 mins before departure) and had to be redeemed at the gate.

Best (and surest) way to get Plus is to buy it in advance. Next best is to buy up at OLCI.

Hi @The Lev,

Thank you for your inquiry about your Welcome Gold kit. We're sorry to hear that you were not able to take advantage of the Plus upgrade vouchers, as they were only valid for a month after when you had received them.

If you could send an email to [email protected] with this, along with your WestJet Rewards account number - one of our Rewards Specialists can investigate further and see if anything can be done.

We look forward to your email, and thanks for being our valued guest!

Hi @coleworld,

Thanks for your inquiry. Gold members who achieved Gold status through Status Match enjoy the following benefits:

• Lounge and seat selection vouchers
• Free first and second checked bags
• No fee for same-day flight changes at check-in
• Priority security screening at select airports and advance boarding

In addition, they are sent a Gold Welcome Package which includes two personalized Gold luggage tags and four space-available Plus upgrade vouchers. Please note that this is only sent to first time Gold members (those who were already Gold before and retained Gold through Status Match will not receive one).

The Gold tier's milestone awards, such as companion vouchers, are only earned through reaching the qualifying flight spend of $6000 during a 12-month qualifying year. Hope this helps!

I recently received a Welcome Gold kit and my vouchers expire in May 2017, which is only 6 months after I qualified. I would be disappointed if I couldn't use them before then, but in my last 4 flights since becoming Gold (all booked in Flex), I have been twice automatically upgraded to Plus when I check-in online 24 hours before, and on the other two flights, Plus was already sold out 24 hours before. It would be nice if the vouchers expired at the same time as my initial Gold status in December 2017, or if you could use them during online check-in 24 hours before departure.

I agree. While it's nice to have these vouchers from WestJet it would have been nice to have them expire when our qualifying year expires. I had received some vouchers as well but they were impossible to use. I had take 6 or 8 flights in the 2 months I had to use them but was never able to use them as Plus was sold out. I ended up tearing them up and tossing them as they expired too quickly.

Has anyone heard if WS will be offering another status match promotion? My current gold status will be expiring in Dec and I've found it makes it easy to choose WS over AC once I've blown through my AC SE milestones (requalified for SE status this year in June). Most of my flights are TPAC and TATL J class on AC - so WS in Y is what I have been using or domestic travel unless AC schedule is more convenient. Unfortunately this means I'll be short of the $6k spend with WS but would like to renew for a few of the perks (free bags, priority boarding etc.)

WestJet Rewards Fast Track 2017

Terms and conditions
*This is an exclusive offer, available by invitation only to select WestJet Rewards members. Members that have not been invited by WestJet Rewards are not eligible to participate.

As an invited member you have been automatically registered for this Fast Track promotion (the "Promotion") and will be eligible to receive promotionally upgraded earn rates and flight benefits for the applicable tier status and end date specified on the offer email when you achieve a minimum of $500 in qualifying flight spend on WestJet flights flown between the dates specified on the offer email (the "Promotion Period").

Promotion is available to invited members only as a limited-time offer within the timelines specified on the offer email. Members with existing upgraded tier status or members not invited by WestJet Rewards to participate are not eligible.

Qualifying flight spend on flights flown is defined as the amount spent on published base fares on WestJet-marketed flights flown during the Promotion Period. For further clarity, published base fares are fares published by WestJet and available to all guests on the WestJet website (found at www.westjet.com), less any discounts. Qualifying flight spend does not include WestJet Vacations packages, partner-marketed flights, car or hotel bookings made on westjet.com, taxes, fees or charges, any portion paid with WestJet dollars (including on Member Exclusive fares) or any other reward program redemption (see Program terms and conditions for more details).

A WestJet flight flown is a WestJet-marketed flight purchased through a published base fare and completed, and normally eligible for WestJet dollar accrual as per the WestJet Rewards program terms and conditions.

A WestJet-marketed flight is any flight (excluding those booked as part of a WestJet Vacations package) with a WS carrier code preceding the flight number (for example, WS 656, WS 3396). The flight may be operated by WestJet, WestJet Encore or a code-share partner airline.

Flights flown during the Promotion Period will be eligible, provided the other conditions of the Promotion are met.

The member's 9-digit WestJet Rewards ID must be included on all reservations at the time of booking or check-in to allow for qualifying flight spend to be tracked for this Promotion.

Qualifying flight spend for the Promotion will be tracked and is independent of the qualifying flight spend reported during a member's individual qualifying year; members who cross into a new qualifying year during the Promotion Period will have qualifying flight spend from both years considered for this Promotion.
Invited members who are registered into the offer will be eligible to receive the earn rates and flight benefits associated to the upgraded tier based on satisfying the qualifying flight spend requirement during the Promotion Period. Upgraded earn rates and flight benefits will be awarded within 30 days of reaching the requirement. Members will be able to confirm and view their upgraded tier status and benefits within 30 days of reaching the requirement by downloading and signing into the WestJet mobile app.

Promotional earn rates and flight benefits for the tier status applicable to this Promotion can be found at westjet.com/tiers. The member's earn rates and flight benefits will be awarded on a promotional basis and will expire per the date specified on the offer email. Earn rates and flight benefits awarded on a promotional basis, including through this Promotion, may have shorter validity periods than when awarded to a member as a result of regular program activity (ie. achieving $3,000 or $6,000 in qualifying flight spend on WestJet flights flown within a qualifying year).

Milestone awards are excluded from this Promotion. The ability for any member to receive milestone awards, including the Canada-wide companion voucher and/or the WestJet-wide companion voucher, is directly correlated to a member's qualifying flight spend at any point in time and will not change as a result of a member achieving promotional earn rates and flight benefits through any means, including this Promotion. Milestone awards will be awarded in step with the normal qualifying flight spend milestones set out in the WestJet Rewards program.

Invited members will be eligible to receive upgraded earn rates and flight benefits one time only through this Promotion or any other promotion available during the same timeframe. Member may not receive promotional earn rates or flight benefits through multiple promotions.

All other WestJet Rewards program terms and conditions remain in effect.
Promotion is subject to change without notice.

For more information on WestJet Rewards, visit westjet.com/rewards.
In order to take advantage of the upgraded earn rates and flight benefits, it is recommended that you review your communication consent and opt-ins to receive communications.

Way to cheapen the program with a lousy $500 spend for the masses, albeit targeted masses.

Not as bad as previous status match promotions. People could get Gold by matching status in car rental or Hotel programs which were ridiculously easy to obtain.

Hello @YEGAccountant,

Thank you for your inquiry. We appreciate your loyalty and support!

Currently we do not have a status match promotion, please be sure to check your email settings by logging into your account at http://profile.westjet.com to review the ‘Communications’ setting for the most up to date information regarding promotions. You never know when we will run this promotion again, I can’t say for sure it will be offered but just in case you want to be in the loop. Also keep an eye out for Fast Track promotions that may come your way.

We hope to welcome you aboard soon.

A friend of mine rang me today to say she signed into her WestJet account and is now Gold until end of her term. She has less than $600 spend so far. We figure it was some form of a status match. She did not get a notification telling her why they moved her to Gold but she is a happy camper!

Thanks for the response. Much appreciated and as a shareholder I like the proactive customer communications. I'll have enough for the silver tier for next year; unfortunately that doesn't get you much (zone 1 boarding is the most important for me). I will keep my eyes open for a status match promotion in the future - in the meantime I'll shift all my domestic travel back to AC (and cancel my WestJet Mastercard - don't like the hike in the AF).
