Post thanksgiving - outlet malls

Planning a trip around thanksgiving and the key objective is to visit an outlet mall. Assuming no limitations on location, what do you think the best outlet mall is ? Ideally it will have a huge variety of shops, walking distance hotels and access to transportation.

Thank you in advance.

I'd start by checking out the Simon outlet malls here:

There are a bunch and I can recommend Desert Hills out by Palm Springs. Unfortunately no hotels in walking distance IIRC, but the Morongo Casino / Hotel is nearby.

In Oregon there are outlets in Woodburn. The up side is there is no sales tax on top of your discounts. It's about 50 minutes south of Portland. You can stay in PDX or drive up from Salem, so it doesn't really meet your hotel and transport concerns. It's also right off I-5.

We've got these here in Anthem, AZ (20 miles north of Phoenix). There's a Hampton Inn right nearby or you can stay in Phoenix and enjoy the weather:

You possibly want to think about hitting the stores on 'Black Friday' (day after Thanksgiving).
Huge sales with early starts ....some Outlet Malls will open at 00.01am on the Friday.

How about Ontario Mills, a large Simon outlet complex east of Los Angeles:

Is there a particular shop or item you're looking for? Along with the mentioned outlets at New River, AZ (Anthem is a master planned community that is much newer), there's the Arizona Mills, an outlet mall in Tempe, but it has been years since I've been there. There's also outlets in Casa Grande and Sedona.

That said, I rarely find the bargains at outlets that I did in the past. If you really want a unique experience, go to the original outlets in Reading, PA. They're in old clothing factories, and you could stay in town close by. But that doesn't really fall within the West forum.

Las Vegas, baby! Las Vegas Premium Outlets are near downtown and it's pathetically easy to cab there from the Strip - I see cabs lined up all the time whenever I'm in the area. If you gamble at all, this could be a no-brainer.

There is a second set of outlet shops, less dense, on the Strip itself south of the airport; and there is a set of outlet stores in Primm.

And I must point out in Oregon, no sales tax on top of all the nice places above.

I did a Hilton search and near Woodburn, Lake Oswego, OR has a HGI 20 miles from the shops. However, your still stuck on the no public transportation issue. The freeway is right there though.

There are 3 or 4 hotels near the Woodburn Outlets...mass-market chains such as Best Western, La Quinta...all within a mile or so. I think La Quinta would be within "walking distance". You can get from PDX to Woodburn in about 40 minutes in a rental car. (Salem is closer but there's no air service there)

I was just at Woodburn Company Stores today and the La Quinta is definitely within a reasonable walking distance (it's on the same street as the stores, actually). The Best Western is on the other side of I-5.

And the no sales tax is always nice.

A reminder: Some outlet stores carry a mix of standard merchandise (items carried in non-outlet stores)
AND merchandise that the company sources specifically for its outlet stores. The quality of these "special items" can vary, so check all items carefully and don't hesitate to ask the staff about this.

I would be wary of 'outlet' malls. Quite often the prices are not much different than in an actual store. They also sell lower quality branded items that are designed and manufactured cheaply and only sold at outlets.

Retailers are good at making money. Selling high quality things at cheap prices and draining customers away from full service stores does not make them money.
