DC: Westin City Center or Churchill

Hi All,

The title says it all. I will be attending a conference in DC. My conference registration included a 2-night stay at the Marriott Wardman Park. As I am flying in a day early, I'm on my own for the first night. Since the Marriot is priced out of my budget for this trip, I will be staying in a different property that first night. Would my fellow FTers familiar with the DC area recommend the Westin City Center or Churchill? With the Westin, I will be earning my SPG points and have the consistency I have come to expect and love - Heavenly bed, service, etc. With the Churchill, I can say I stayed in a really cool, historic place - or could I? That's how they make it sound online, but I can't really find much history about it from third sources. All things being equal - relatively same downtown DC location, same price ($127 vs. $125 all in), am I better off going for the consistency and points or the "historic gem?"

Thanks in advance!

Don't know about either of these properties, but a couple years ago I was working in DC and spent a week away from my usual Marriott properties to stay at the Willard instead (at Christmas time). I was very glad I did it.

The Willard is a gem. The Churchill, alas, is not. I'd go with the Westin.

have not done churchill. would prefer the location of the weston for restaurants. my experience with the westin is really lousy service.

also parking is very expensive if you are driving. metro stop is 4-5 blocks away,

Thanks all; I went with the Westin. Can't beat it for $124 especially when splitting that with a friend. Will only be in that hotel for 1 night, but looking forward.
