Free upgrade to Flying Club Silver?

Just wondered if Virgin will be doing the free upgrade to silver status that they did last year?

Why do you want it? Silver is mostly useless anyway. A few extra miles and use of PE check in. It's hardly worth going out your way for.

This is FT.

Why wouldn't we want a freebie status upgrade to get a shinier piece of plastic?

(actually, the HEX/GEX upgrade vouchers were pretty useful - particularly since I managed to get 4 uses out of my HEX one )

Have you seen the new shinier piece of plastic? Though I've not seen the red ones yet, maybe they are worse (if that's possible)

who was last years offer aimed at? I missed out on silver this year because of a problem with the wrong fare bucket on a partner airline, so would love to get it, especially as i will be earning 20tp's this year as well so would get me almost to gold. :-)

VS silver - waste of plastic

I am a new convert from Cathay to Virgin and was comped a gold card to move having avoided VS for 12 years.
Having studies the benefits I can see no advantage having a red or silver card (apart from collecting miles). No lounge access so what is the point of the silver ?
Is gold the highest level ? You dont actually have to fly that much to get one so I wonder how it is graded.

I'd assume it's targetted, as I received an invitation which was co-branded with Hilton HHonors, so if you're an HHonors member it may be worth trying this route to Virgin Silver:

www.virginatlantic.com/goldentouch

Hope it helps.

There is not much benefit to vs silver. But if you're going to fly them, might as well get the 25% bonus miles.

Also, you do have priority check in and priority standby, which is a plus.

One thing to note is that VS silver only requires 15 segments, whereas Silver on us airlines requires (normally) 30 segments, which partially justifies the lack of benefits of vs silver.

Only works for new enrolements, and the small print says not if you have VS as your preferred partner in your HHonors account. Very Odd promo.

15 tier points actually - which is 5 Premium Economy flights - 3 Upper Class flights or more economy flights depending on the fare code.

Worth it for the 25% miles extra but little else ...

From the website promo page...

plus we'll fast track you to Flying Club Gold
I'm intrigued as to this comment though - no explanation as to how the "Fast Track" works, unless it means they give you enough TPs to get silver and you carry on from there to Au?

Hi all. First time writing here although have been keeping an eye on the forum for a while
Just wondering if there is anyway of taking advantage of this promo for existing FC members? If not, I presume there isn't a way to join again and then merge accounts or something? Approaching silver myself but would be grateful for a leg-up. (currently no affiliation with Hhonors...)

Thanks all.

A dummy Silver card is included in the comp pack, although the fine print indicates FC Silver membership is activated the instant you sign up. Status is valid for 12 months. To qualify for the fast track to Gold, you need to earn no less than 20 tier points during the first 7 months of FC membership.
