Different 73H configurations

I recently (past week) flew SYD-BNE and BNE-SYD both on aircraft designated 73H. On the SYD-BNE flight the space between the rows was significantly (at least > 3cm) greater than on the BNE-SYD flight. Is this possible - obviously yes but the variation is sufficient to push me onto Qantas for future domestic travel.

Which rows did you sit in? Rows 3, 4 and 5 have extra legroom. They are free for Platinum Velocity members, but normally cost a small premium for other passengers unless a nice check-in agent bumps you up.

On SYD-BNE it was row 22 C/D then BNE-SYD in row 30 C/D (Last row by choice for quicker disembarkation via rear stairs). Can't figure it out as both aircraft seemed the same.

Well I am 6'8" so I tend to notice these things, and I have never been aware of difference in the legroom on the 737's. I haven't sat in the last row, however... Maybe there's something up with that?

There has been one aircraft I sat in that had severely reduced legroom in row 3 (the bulkhead), but it's never happened again. There could be a single rogue plane out there I guess?? I fly 3-4 times per week, mainly 737's.

In any event, moral of the story is no, there's no difference except maybe on one plane.

Thanks for the input - I'm sure it wasn't my imagination but then?? I only fly domestic a couple of times per year usually in Y (can't justify J on short flights). I don't have status or affinity with either Virgin on Qantas but usually pick Virgin as I get lounge access via by AmEx Platinum card.

Agreed, did you note the plane type on the information card?

VA has a few black sheep plane types running around.

Unlikely as Row 22 in the 700 is the last row and I'm pretty sure the OP would have recognised being the last row both times.

What are the flight numbers, won’t be hard to get the regos with that info, if it’s not a 700 then it’s likely BSI vs non BSI

VA931 was VUV non BSI
VA956 was YFH BSI

Shouldn’t be that different pitch wise, unless it was stuffed up in the reconfig?

On most other carriers that have gone BSI they have managed to allow the last row to recline so maybe that was done in the reconfig.
