Bonus Points
Hi!
Anyone familiar on how elite bonus calculation is applied in Virgin Australia Velocity Frequent Flyer? For instance a domestic flight marketed and operated by VA from ABX-SYD. Fare is $145 for a direct flight ($130 base fare+$15 tax + cxr surcharges). According to VA Velocity website, I will earn 5 points per dollar spent. Hereafter, I’ll accumulate 725 points for this flight. How about for a Silver member with 50% bonus points? Does it applies to the basic earned points of 725? Thereafter, it can accrue 1088 points?
($145 x 5 points per dollar spent) + (725 x 50%) = 1088.
Could someone confirm if my calculation is correct?
Thanks!

I don't think you earn the status bonus when flying with VA's partners, unless its with a VA flight code/number.
I fly with VA's partner (A)NZ a lot, both whY and J, and have not ever had a PS bonus while flying with an NZ code on the BP.
I do as above confirmed, get the status bonus on Australian dom flights, but you only get the bonus flying VA flights.
If that EY flight carried a VA flight number, presumabally you would get the bonus, on a miles flown basis, (but if it was purely an EY flight, you get the miles flown calculation, no bonus and not per $ spent calculation.
Edit: just had a look, flew SYD-AKL with an NZ flight code/number in J, got 2684 VA FF points, 2x1342 miles, and no PS status bonus. Got 60 SC out of it.

I flew a few EY flights earlier in the year booked directly with EY with EY flight numbers (MEL/AUH/IST/CAI). It was a cheap fare class and I received only 0.5 Velocity base points per mile. The website said 100% bonus for platinum but I actually received another 1.0 Velocity points per mile effectively tripling my base rate. eg MEL-AUH 3,623 base plus 7,246 bonus, total 10,869 (40SC).
It looks like the earning and bonus rates changed for EY on August 1 so those rates, whatever they were, wouldn't apply now.

Ah, thats interesting, for the info pre 01 Aug anyways.
NZ never gave me any status bonus for being a VA member.
Right. Noted, will behave now.
