Nice to see but a bit sneaky to create new Zones different from SC earning zones.
Sydney-Adelaide is just under 750 miles so one gets LOWEST credit - but the UPGRADE to Adelaide puts it into Zone 2.
1 - 750
2 - 751-1,500
3 - 1,501-3,000
4 - 3,001-5,000
5 - 5,001-8,000
6 - 8,001 +

Way over my head, and simply wasted a deal of my time and others I am sure.
Why not use the 'Report Post' button instead of this cloak and dagger nonsense - Mods can see the IP of all posters - it is not your role I'd suggest.
Maybe we can get back to posting about upgrades now?

Good point! When members are concerned about TOS violations, trolling, multiple handles use, etc. the best thing to do is follow the TOS:
How to Report Bad Posts - link to this guideline
Our volunteer moderators read as much as they can on FlyerTalk, but they can't get to every post so your help is appreciated in keeping FlyerTalk a polite community. If you see a post that does not comply with the rules, report the post by clicking on the report post icon, which looks like this and is at the bottom left corner of all posts. Your message will be sent to forum moderators who will review the post.
In the case there are no forum moderators, the "AMP" will go to the four Senior Moderators. If someone had not use the AMP, we would not likely have received the information to vet; we will now follow up appropriately.
JDiver, on behalf of the Senior Moderator team
We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming.

Indeed - the only time I have ever been tempted to use points upgrades was for MEL-PER. You need a longish flight to make it worthwhile. But alas, my work changed its rules and booked me on a Saver fare as that was only $500 rather than $800 for the round trip Anyway, I would have tried to upgrade at 9,900 each way but there's no way I would pay 30,000 for a one way upgrade. I'd rather save my points for Y trips to crazy-expensive destinations like ISA that I would otherwise never get to visit.

Yes points for upgrades are not a good option really, other than the short 1 hour flights in zone 1.
As you say when you need to fly to some strange place using points for a redemption, there is often a FAR ore cost effective use!

It's bad bang for your points buck - SYD-PER is about 33,000 points - the only thing you gain is the ability to earn status credits in Y for upgrading at the cheaper Saver rate (rather than Flexi).
There was a VA promotion last year that had status credits earn while flying the redeemed class (i.e redeem J, get J status credits but no points) - that was brilliant on a SYD-PER redemption.

Status credits/miles are a weird thing. They are very precious to 10?% of members who are on the cusp of one status and another. And entirely worthless to everyone else.
