Front cabin was empty, still no upgrade!
One last post about my attempt to upgrade VA 535 on April 25. When I flew on the plane the entire front cabin was empty. Not a single person in business class, and only about 40 people on the whole flight.
Perhaps they decided that catering the front cabin just for me was not worth it? I can't otherwise figure out why they would not have taken my upgrade bid of C$155, but I'm glad they let it languish since I had an entire row to myself.

"Catering" is a Luke Mangan salad, they sell to others for a few bucks and a glass of wine, so I doubt it was that.
Stupidity more like it .. the computer let them down!

Hardly worth it for a 50 minute flight in any case.
However, catering would have been a choice of two small meals along with complimentary drinks (beer/wine/spirits).

My one and only VA J experience would not lead me to pay that sort of money though, given how I have worked out how to rort free drinks down the back (on a deepest darkest discount fare, three of them on CFS-SYD).

I suspect the cheaper bids was more a byproduct of traveling mid year in to the aussie winter. this would never happen at the xmas holiday season.

Bumping this with a question -- I'm flying PER-MEL later this month on VA 690. Booked through an online TA for $174 US in S class. Have a bid in for an upgrade -- any thoughts on what is reasonable to get me upgraded. Purchased business class ticket for the same flight is almost $1400 US.
Thanks.
Thanks.

I just flew VA PE LAX-BNE, about 12 hours and hound it quite comfortable. Of course I had an empty seat next to me, but it still seemed wide enough and the leg roo was fine. More comfortable than AF PE.
