Well, what's going to make a customer angrier and less likely to fly an airline- a cancelled flight because they can't put another plane in service, or a flight where the IFE's broken and the FC seats have to be adjusted manually and don't have massage?
You might want to ask an AA frequent flyer how their last couple of weeks have gone before answering that.
This isn't to say I don't agree with the general sentiment in this thread- having a dark plane does hurt the VX experience, no doubt, and they should be getting this taken care of ASAP.
Well, as an AA EXP who had to fly an MD-80 on April 10, in the midst of the mess, I can answer that question for myself.
When VX schedules a flight, then has to fly a dark plane to fulfill that schedule, then they are writing checks their rear cannot cash. The choice shouldn't be fly a dark plane or cancel a flight. The choice should be schedule a flight with having the equipment, or not schedule a flight. They have chosen to schedule a flight, and the cost is pissed off passengers.
The decision to fly a drak plane wasn't made day of flight, it was made months before when they scheduled the flight. That's why VX management is so disingenuous about this, and why I felt the need to start this thread.

Well, at this point I don't know if that's true or not. People on this forum have stated both: that it's scheduled, and that it's a fill-in for operational issues. (Both sides claiming authority)

BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZT.
Sorry pal, 'fraid not.
But assuming for a moment that I actually were employed by UA - why would you say such a thing? Do you actually take pleasure in the thought that an employee from a competing carrier might have 'ruffled feathers' over VX?
That's pretty sad and speaks volumes about your character, if you ask me.

I disagree. Most consumers I know want VX to ruffle the network carriers' feathers, so that they will be forced into changing the way they handle the customer experience. If VX goes out of business in 5 years, but in the meantime the merged CO/UA and DL/NW are forced to add sleeper seats in domestic F/C, live TV and games on every flight, real food, Internet, etc., it will have served a great purpose.
Right now, I will choose VX over any other carrier because no other carrier is offering the same class of service. I sincerely hope that changes, and that I can have more choices.

Never assumed you worked for UA.
If UA ppl are worried about VX, it confirms they are a legitimate threat.

In any case, I think you have guessed incorrectly. Before this thread, if you look at his hundreds of posts back to 5/2003, they are all in the AS forum (except 2 HP postings, from when they still existed).

I think both are probably right, but that the first is happening at all is just wrong....
On my flight, the crew claimed that they knew for a few days at least that this would be the equipment used....
I convinced my sister to buy a First Class ticket on VX. The ticket price was $649 inclusive (the flight was earlier than she wanted, but it was $150 cheaper, so she went with it). Unfortunately, I now feel like a dolt.
She told me that the F seat was great and very comfortable. However, she said there was essentially no meal service on this 5 1/2 flight from JFK to SFO. She said the "meal" consisted of two miniscule antipasto type appetizers. There was no entree and no dessert. She tried to order a sandwich through the RED touchscreen and the F/A came back to tell her all they had on that flight was snack mix, a couple other packaged snacks. Sis also said the TV signal kept cutting out, and her IFE system froze twice and had to be reset by the F/A. The flight also arrived much later into SFO than predicated by VX flight status (I was picking her up), and then it took like 35 minutes for baggage to come out. Apparently, the gate was occupied by another plane and it took 20 minutes to get into the gate.
Actually, she said she would fly VX again, but thought the main problems were inattentive flight attendants, and the lack of food service. It sounds to me like something was wrong with the catering on this flight, but she claims no compensation was offered for the lack of food in F. What do you think is appropriate?

No IFE, no seat recline, no massage, no working power ports, nothing. I was handed a voucher for $25. When I complained that I had paid way more than $25 over coach to experience 1st, I was treated in a rude and snarley fashion. So, no premium experience as the brand has promised, and poor service. I don't believe I will be flying them again....
I am sorry to hear about your experience, but if you didn't turn on your heel and request a refund, the fault, quite frankly, lies with you!

Nah. Virgin America pushes all of the amenities in order to distinguish itself.....$25 cert?! HA! You would have gotten more on a SkyKit with United! And we (Im a f/a) dont have any IFE but audio on many of our domestic flights.
You deserve more, and the snarly attitude that you received......well, it didn't take Virgin long to get that way did it?!

What date was this?
By the way, 35 minutes for luggage is better than my waiting time for AS luggage by a factor of 2.
