Thumbs up
I had this on my flight from SAN Thursday.
Upgrades:
Higher resolution. More powerful graphics, more detailed interactive flight map. Did not notice much difference in sound. Pinch screen works. Much faster response to input.
Based on Android.
Thumbs up all around ^ ^
Thought to catch the tail number and forgot on the dash out to try and beat the traffic. Epic fail there.

This is an area where airlines seem to have inconsistent visions. In many cases, BYOD is replacing seatback displays, and I think that's a bit of a copout, especially in premium cabins where I want to simply veg out and watch TV or a movie. Having to wrangle my own device, worry about battery (or plugging it in), connecting to a flaky system, etc. is not as good as having a TV in front of me that "just works." So I am really glad that VX is investing in a next-gen system that will outshine everyone else.
Now if we could get that ATG4 Gogo replaced with 30 mbps Ku satellite internet for my flights to Honolulu...
