Emirates is the newest VX partner

So, Emirates has joined the glamour.

Looks like RDP, but no EQP.

Taxes and fees are ridiculous for redemptions

Ex: LAX-DXB, 50k points (ok), $720 taxes and fees (bzz! wrong answer.)

Not too far off from the taxes that EK itself charges now.

They differ from airline to airline. That's because the partner airline determines the taxes and fees, not the booking airline.

Another useless enhancement from a useless FF program.

Not really.
Using AS miles, our LAX-DXB-CPT First Class EK tickets cost us $15.00 each in fees.

Probably similar to how Delta doesn't charge YQ on VA, but VX does.

Just called and tried to do a booking from LAX-DXB. They can't take bookings until Nov 1st. Also it's not anywhere EK flies only to dxb. Hopefully they will have some seats available. Also you can only book econ or biz, no F. I wonder what's better biz in EK or CX F.

LOL, only to DXB and not beyond?

Did you really mean to ask if EK J is better than CX F?

In long-haul metal (77W, 744, 388)...
CX beats EK in both F and J
EK Business on the 77W is awful, angled flat 2-3-2
CX Business is way better than EK Business.

My rankings between the two...
1. CX First
2. EK First
3. CX Business
4. EK Business

Angled lie flat?! like AA 772? I wouldn't wish that on my worse enemy.

EK's seats on the 77W are indeed 'angled lie flats', but appear to not be as 'angled' as the AA seats. In fact, the angle is hardly noticeable. The EK A380 however has true lie flat seats, and flies to JFK and will soon fly to LAX. If you'd like more information consult the EK forum.

It's not THAT bad. I used to dread them but after trying EK's A380 J seat I found them an easier sleep. Mind you never tried EK's B77W J on anything longer than 7 hours.

The redemption is by sector, so if you're looking at SFO-DXB-DOH they will come out as 2 transactions.

I am yet to take CX in F. So I can't comment on that. But I have taken F with BA, EY, EK and QF for me to say that EK comes on top overall. Now to say that CX F beats the best of the bunch, it has to be a pretty good F.

Seats aside, EK business is better than CX at every level.

I booked an EK ticket on Thursday AM and today via email received our EK PNR and ticket #'s (984 stock, obviously). However, EK still doesn't have the e-ticket info when I pull up the booking on their website. Does this take time to push through to their systems usually?

Pretty frickin amazing, isn't it? A few years ago, I was able to grab an SFO-DXB RT in F using United miles right before that partnership ended. That whole private cabin thing is nuts -- especially when all I did was play some cc bonus mile games to get it.

BTW, the return was back via LAX. Katie Holmes had one of the other F suites; her bodyguard had another.

Just to follow up on this in case somebody else has the same issue ... according to a VX supervisor, VX etickets don't display properly on EK.com due to EK's systems. Not a huge deal *except* that you can't choose seats or book chauffeur online--you have to call in to do both of them.

ETA: That functionality (seats, chauffeur, etc) actually does seem to be available via the EK *mobile site* which does show it as ticketed.
