Very confused about exit rows

Ive called 6 different times to Virgin America and gotten six different answers. If one books the cheapest ticket, what is the charge to upgrade to an exit row. Not necessarily the Main Cabin Select rows, but just an exit row. I know it depends on length of flight, but would the cheapest option be for the shortest flight?

Also can you upgrade to Main Cabin Select from the cheapest Main Cabin fare for a nominal fee (under $100?) on day of departure?

There are two types of exit rows

Row 9 is an exit row but no recline so it is available to coach travelers. However only the airport can assign them so the call center cannot help you. It does not cost extra to sit in row 9.

Row 10 has recline and is sold as MCS

Upgrades to MCS are available at 24 hours prior to departure. Price does vary based on length.

Long Haul Flights (such as New York to San Francisco) – $110
Medium Haul Flights (such as Los Angeles to Seattle) – $55
Short Haul Flights (such as San Francisco to Las Vegas) – $35

The row numbers you mention only apply to flights on A320s. For A319s it's the same story with rows 7&8.

Small correction - on A319 all seats with extra leg room are either MCS or First Class.

On the A320 as stated above row 9 is a non reclining exit row with extra leg room, no extra charge but can only be assigned at the airport.

All times are GMT -6. The time now is 3:55 pm.
