It seems someone has already created an Elevate account with your email address. Use the "Forgot Password" link and reset your password. After logining in, you'll be able to find out who's using your email address. The other option is just to use a different email address.

Incorrect. I tried joining several months ago and it gave me this error regardless of the 5 different emails I used. I put it down to the time difference, and that during midnight to say 4AM the system kept giving me that error. Doing it at a different time the next day worked fine.
They should replace that error msg with something to do with systems maintenence.
Interestingly I found that at the same time AA was telling me they had no flights on a certain day, so it must be common in the industry.

It is definitely not the case that my email address is being used by someone else. I tried two different email addresses. However, I don't think it is a 'midnight to say 4AM' problem either, but maybe it is a time-difference issue? I am at GMT+2 (+1 hour summer time).

even if an elevate account is deleted, that email address will still not be allowed in the system.
I have tried two separate accounts. Neither has ever been used for anything connected with Virgin America. One MAY have a connection with the UK airline Virgin Atlantic, but not the other (it is a new email address).
My wife has now tried a third email address using her name. Definitely a new email. Same problem!

I am certain that you should just try at a different time. I too that it had linked to my Virgin Blue account in Australia, until every email address returned the same error.

Yes, but when I tried to click on the 'join' button I got the 'template' error as above.
I have now tried with a different IP: Using my UK broadband cellular USB modem (roaming) instead of my local Israeli IP (which is filtered through a linux server which I thought may be part of the problem): still no good!
