US Airports Accessible by Public Train or Regular Shuttle Service

Is there a list somewhere of all the airports in the US that are accessible by either:

1) public train; or

2) regular shuttle service?

In regards to public train service, I'm thinking primarily of access to the airport from a city's downtown area, and maybe some limited surrounding areas. Like Atlanta, Salt Lake City, New York, etc.

But is there a list that compiles all rail-accessible airports?

In regards to regular shuttle service, however, I'm thinking of airports that have shuttles that go farther afield than the closest city to the airport, and on a fairly regular basis. Like, for example, Albuquerque's airport has regular shuttle service to Santa Fe.

Are there other airports that have similar transport options and, if so, where do the shuttles go?

Anyone know of a list that sets all of these places out?

Airport rail link has a list by North America, by type of train connection - you can extract data from those for a US-only, rail list.

"regular shuttle service" expands the list to just about everywhere. Almost any airport I've been to has a shuttle - public or private - to the main city.

MIA trirail at airport. FLL shuttle then train PBI same as FLL.
TRI/Rail is not so bad.
Inexpensive as well

downtown <--> airport rail/subway services that I've taken in the past few years include: Seattle (Link Light Rail), Portland OR (MAX), Washington National (Metro blue and yellow lines), Baltimore (MARC Penn Line to a station that requires a 5-min shuttle bus ride; also serves DC's Union Station), MTA light rail, direct), Atlanta (MARTA), Philadelphia (SEPTA), Newark (various rail lines; station is a 5-min AirLink ride from the terminal), Boston ("T" blue line, iirc a short shuttle bus ride), San Francisco (BART), Oakland (BART -- I think the shuttle bus is no more with a new station)

From memory, not presented as definitive list (but updated to add wisdom from other posters)... this is a rail-only list. Every serious airport has some sort of bus transport.

US airports with direct, no-change rail links, terminal to downtown:

ORD
MDW
DEN
SFO
ATL
MSP
STL
PHL
CLE
DCA
SEA (light rail leaves from airport periphery, not terminal)
PDX
BWI

Airports where you take a shuttle train to a mainline train:

JFK
EWR
MIA
OAK (BART spur)

Airports with dedicated bus/mainline train combo links:

BOS
BWI
IAD

To expand on this a little bit more:

MIA has an intermodal center that is connected via a "Skytrain" to the terminals. From this intermodal center you can catch the Tri-Rail north to West Palm Beach with stops in different cities along the way. You can also catch the Metrorail Orange Line to Kendall (South Miami) with stops in Downtown Miami along the way (to get around the Downtown area there is the FREE Metromover). You can also catch Greyhound from the Intermodal Center as there is a station here. Finally Miami-Dade Transit has multiple routes including an express to Miami Beach that makes limited stops in the Miami Beach area all south of 41st street.

From the terminal area itself, you can catch Red Coach/MegaBus to other cities (similar to Greyhound with Business Class style seating), Supershuttle to anywhere in the local area, or Taxi/Uber/Lyft as well.

However there is no direct link to the Port of Miami, as you would have to use Supershuttle or Taxi/Uber/Lyft. If you decide to use other arranged transportation, make sure they are licensed by Miami-Dade County or you could lose your money if they are caught.

STL has a direct light rail link from the airport to downtown as well.

It's the same light rail train (but in opposite directions) for downtown Minneapolis and the Mall of America. Downtown St Paul requires a change.

In the regularly scheduled shuttle service (NOT something like SuperShuttle), BOS and LGA/JFK/EWR have dedicated special bus-like vehicles that make several stops downtown. This avoids taking a separate shuttle to the "subway."

IIRC DEN has a nonstop airport bus to a downtown transportation terminal.

IIRC PHX has either a bus or light rail to downtown Phoenix, stopping near the convention hotels. There's light rail to downtown Tempe.

MSY has bus service, IIRC to someplace near the IC but not to the French Quarter or closer to the big convention hotels near the river.

PVD has bus service to downtown.

BDL has scheduled (hourly) bus service to downtown Hartford. Bus line 30, cash fare is $1.75.

MCI has scheduled bus service, I believe every 30 minutes, to downtown KC. Cash fare is $1.50.

PWM has scheduled bus service from the Jetport into town (you can also walk the distance in about 30 minutes). Bus line 5, cash fare is $1.50.

I would wager that nearly all large metros have some kind of scheduled bus service to the airport -- airports have a significant working population who may need transit. Might be easier to call out the airports with no public transit.

I don't know of any serious US airport without some transit option, but speed and convenience vary. Worst major airport I know of is DTW, which only has a slow, jalopy-like city transit bus that takes forever to dawdle its way downtown. oyu basically have to rent a car or take a taxi.

For SFO, per previous trips and BART site, pax arriving in 1, 2 or 3 have to take an AirTrain to connect to BART.

BUR - has a commuter rail station to downtown LA if you walk across the parking lot like in SEA, though there are more trains in the downtown direction in the morning and more trains in the outbound direction in the afternoon/evening due to its commuter nature. Other LA-area airports are bus or bus + rail options.
