But, can't you factor in the share dilution to some extent?
Yes, you can. It's certainly not beneficial to shareholders, but the ~$3m in stock/options doesn't cost "cash" - ie you can't use it to buy fuel or pay vendors. Of course, you could give it to employees in the form of options or stock.
I "love" this airline and I wanted to bring this thread back to life for just a moment to "celebrate" this policy! It gives whole new meaning to "short haul" flyer!

Ironic you brought this thread back. I flew US today from CAE-CLT-DCA using a friend's buddy pass. Everything went smooth and I was even able to upgrade on the CLT-DCA segment. Pre-departure drinks were served and subsequent drinks were carried out on a small tray and then handed to me. Very professional.
I started thinking to myself maybe I will start paying to fly US again.....then I remembered about the 500 mile minimum rule. ...not going to fly US to earn 838 EQMs for a CAE-CLT-DCA trip when I can earn 2,000 EQMs on Delta. Even if they brought back the 500 mile minimum for EQMs only I would be happy.
I wonder if the US-UA Merger goes through if the 500 mile minimum may come back.
Me, too--I had an OK US experience, but this mileage reduction bites! I would have earned over 2000 miles roundtrip on any other carrier's similar routes.

Parker has mentioned something to the effect that they've got to try new things, and if it doesn't work, they'd concede. Since every other legacy has stuck with the 500 mile min, it's better than even odds, I think, that the 500 mile min would return as a merger "enhancement"

Thanks Dougie... just booked my first flight on Jet Blue.... while I thought I'd pay more to fly your CRJ's from BOS-BUF, I opted for the newer ERJ with leather seats and TV's!
Thanks for moving me over....... and at a lower price!

I am not Happy...well, which one am I then? Not sure at this point. I will remove my honorary cockroach preferred tag from my carry-on bag. I could put up with the lack of food, but not the shortchanging of miles. After 10 years as a US-1, this year as Platinum, I will fly DL the rest of this year and bump up my GM to PM on DL. I looked at my 24 segments so far this year on US. Connecting on most from RDU through CLT as I see in my Dividend Miles will net me only going forward...
05/05/08 05/07/08 FLIGHT BONUS - PLATINUM 97
05/05/08 05/07/08 RDU CLT 3131 130
I can actually earn about the same amount of other airline miles from 4-day or longer AVIS rental each week than from flying a short hop 4 segment US roundtrip now. Sad.
That is correct--if you credit to UA Mileage Plus, you get the 500-mile minimum. If you credit to US Airways, you don't!
So in other words they're just trying to push all the RJ elites onto United. Most of my US flights don't have a first class anyway so I never cared to switch to US for upgrades. This just solidifies my decision to not change to US. I also managed to redeem an award on US with my United miles for less than an award directly from US would have cost.
