That, coupled with public statements issued to their membership base that their 500-mile segments are SAFE!
I'm sure that even infrequent flyers who belong to other airline programs are worried, and if I were the head of marketing at a competitor I would absolutely play this to my advantage!

Congratulations on posting the most unecessary comment of the milennium. Your credibility has now reached negative numbers.
In other news, bravo to UA for their release.

That, friends, is the actual key to this whole deal. All the e-mails and complaining in the world would not change anything if the other legacies followed US down the same path. But, if they don't (and right now there is no indication they will), then US is hanging out there all alone and the odds are better that they will cave.

That was my thinking even though I don't think it's promising that US will cave. Since UA is not following US, what's to stop all the US FF to switch to UA MP? Since they're both in *A we would still earn miles on US flights but US wouldn't receive the same revenue since the ticket would be booked via UA.
Of course, we would lose the benefits of US DM such as the free upgrades.

That's not true -- switching to UA would just credit miles to UA. If, say, your corporate travel department booked you on a US flight, US would still get the revenue -- UA would get the mileage liability however.
I wonder if that factors into US's plans -- let the other Star carriers get the mileage liabilities when fliers switch to their plans, yet let US continue to reap the revenue benefits of Star Alliance membership.
Well the point is/was that if you write 10 e-mails to US, you'll get 10 different reasons for the changes. No matter how low my credibility, US Airways would still be lower so as long the current management sticks around
I thought your post was funny. And based on what the Sand Castle has shown us lately, the 5 frat boys might have more native intelligence than the US execs - certainly more common sense.

I'm well aware of US and their habit of having an "excuse du jour".
But never, in their arsenal of inane comments have they ever made a personal attack against you and a mistake you may have made in your life that's entirely unrelated to the matter at hand.
You can go back to insinuating US has stooped to the level of someone lying to the cops while making a personal attack on an individual. There are those out there that will find your comments funny, and you certainly have a right to make them.
I, on the other hand, think it's nothing more than childish and gives Tempe, and the press that has cited this thread, as cause to dismiss the FT crowd as nothing more than a fringe group of lunatics.
Now, if you'll need me, I'm going to send myself to the land of the self-exiled cornfield. (I asked my ficus for its recommendation on whether I should continue to participate in this thread )

Apologies if this has been covered, but I didn't see it. When did US remove the block at the bottom of the "PURCHASE" field that used to read:
"Estimated Frequent Flyer mile earned for this itinerary, per member - view details" ?
How are you supposed to calculate different routing options without mileages?
