I'm surprised they're mentioning it on the website.
Seems like they do this routinely for special occasions like Presidential inauguration, Final Four basketball, Madri Gras, NASCAR, what have you.... when demand is high.

Just like they add extra late night banks during high demand (summer and holidays) periods.

Yes, and they're particularly noticeable at CLT and PHX, where the airports can vary from nearly empty to mobbed when the gates are full and people are heading to their connections.
Was curious and just looked at all the seatmaps for these flights--they are PACKED. Only looks to be a single digit number of seats left on some of the flights. If US actually filled those planes at the prices quoted above, they just made a killing on this.

According to flightstats.com, all the return flights are sold out!

Leaving the SB is always more difficult than getting there. People arrive on different days during the week but most leave on Monday. Some may stay a little longer in NOLA if they think their liver and GI track can handle it.

I wonder how much money the airlines really make. After that plane flies BWI-MSY, it has to go somewhere else. Empty planes cost a lot of money.
I remember at some point that for some special event here in DC, one of the airline offered a get out of town fare so as to make sure the planes leaving special events had some passenger load.

Good point!
I'm imagine that US uses the aircraft to go directly to a hub from MSY.
