Convert Amex MR to US Dividend miles at 1: 0.85 ratio

I searched in this forum and Milesbuzz, didn't find this mentioned anywhere.
I recently found out a way to convert American express MR points in to US miles at 1 : 0.85 ratio. Here are the steps -

1) Transfer MR points in to your Aeroplan account.
2) Open points.com account
3) Add Aeroplan account and US Dividend miles account in your points.com account
4) Using ponits.com exchange feature exchange aeroplan miles in to US dividend miles at 1 : 0.85 ratio. You can only transfer 50,000 aeroplan miles at a time. You have to wait until US miles are posted to your account, to do next transfer of 50,000 aeroplan miles.

Also the option might be more lucrative when Amex runs transfer promotions for Aeroplan.

Hope this will help someone needing US miles.

Good tips. Of course, it'd be nice if US and AMEX remained partners so we could transfer 1:1....

It would be nice if US would join up with Chase on the Sapphire rewards too.

Aeroplan to US Airways, min and max... data point

Just wanted to add... Points.com Aeroplan exchange rules:
  • min = 15000, yields 12601 US Airways miles
  • max = 50000

I transferred 16k AMEX MR to Aeroplan (miles showed up instantly), then initiated Aeroplan to US Airways transfer... so far, pending for 1.5 days.

UPDATE: Miles just showed up in my US Airways account. Total transfer time (from AMEX MR-Aeroplan-US Airways) = ~2 days.

Thanks for pointing this out! I had some miles already sitting in Aeroplan anyways.

Thx OP. I was looking to boost my dividend miles by 15000. Saw this, and it worked out to be my best option.

Is there any fee involved with the Aeroplan to Dividend Miles conversion? I'm assuming the MR to Aeroplan transfer is fee-free, since it's not a U.S. carrier. Also, is there any time limit? Can I transfer my MR miles to Aeroplan now (as I need to transfer SOON) and then do the DM conversion later if I have trouble using the miles with Aeroplan?

Really good info. Save on YQ and I think US Air award chart is more favorable compared to AC. Thanks!

No fees involved, not even points.com fees. Don't know about time limit, I guess as long as points.com doesn't change things, you'll be able to do it... the problem won't be with Aeroplan or US "holding your miles".

very creative way!! With the US Airways credit card sign up bonus miles 40K miles, this is a good way to top up your account by transferring your MR points to Aeroplan and then exchange to US Airways miles.

Is it still the 0.85:1 ratio? I'm getting 0.73 ratios.

I'm showing I can trade 50,000 for 42,005 US miles.
