I have read through the thread and I wanna make sure one thing.
I registered for the program yesterday, and immediately booked one single-trip ticket from PHL to BOS, Sept 27. I believe it should be just fine, right, as I heard some people were confused about the purchase-by time, which has to be *after* Sept 15, 2010?

You are saying it HAS TO BE on Sept 15? One person talked to the customer service and said they required the flight to begin AFTER Sept 15. So now, does it have to be RIGHT ON Sept 15, or it can be after Sept 15? I'd have to pick that flight anyway as it's cheap than CO for quite a lot.

So actually, this is like you get a ticket, then you can be a silver elite member right? It doesn't even have to be actually flying to get you to the elite status?
When in doubt, I always read the T&Cs, and it says travel must begin by Sep 15. I believe flights on Sep 15 would qualify, but preferably flights before that date would be ideal.

Yes but you need to fulfill 7500 mile requirement in 90 day period to retain it later on.

well, here's the way to look at it: sure, you can book a throwaway ticket to get your silver status for 90 days. but what good is that going to do if you don't meet your 7500/10 requirement? you just bought a ticket for no reason.

10 segments won't be hard for me to have short flights from PHL to ROC, or to BOS, easy. I am also trying to do AA Platinum challenge so all the coast-to-coast flights have to go through AA, while multiple-segment flights will be going through USAir or CO.
What's more important is another question, guys. Let's say I get to a year for the Silver, does the year starts right from the time you have the Trial silver, or the date right right after you are over with 90-day period? Or it will end after this year...? I know AA starts from Feb for every year, CO is Jan..@_@

In other words, how the elite program starts and ends will determine whether I decide to pick up the throwaway tix on the USAir website.

Correct, you just have to purchase a Non-Refundable ticket and about 24 hrs later, WHAM... Silver... But if you want to hold on to Silver, then you need to fly 10 segments or 7500 miles by XX date (not too sure what the XX date is) I went back on line and was able to print my FF card and show's Silver Preferred with no expire date at all. So if you don't get the 7500 miles or 10 segments you could still use the Elite line and by pass the longer security lines.

Paul, most of these questions have already been asked or stated. Your status is good through Feb 29, 2012
Got it, thanks a lot for the answers, mrredskin. I have been quite confused to understand all the programs in just a day or two to determine which one I'd go through and what strategy I'd use, but thanks again for the reminder.

no one knows for certain. you COULD be able to combine this trial with h/s/j according to some, and you may not according to others. regardless, it just depends on your anticipated flying. 7500/10? silver has you covered. shuttle, east, west, and another h/s/j? you got it with that promo.

Done, PHL --> ROC round trip booked. Hope everything is doing well. I was thinking to do PHL --> PHX Sept 10-12 for one weekend of the August and get 3x but it's not enough time....Maybe I'd still do it.
Any long-haul domestic flights that give you the best EQM/$ ratio with or without 2x/3x? So far, I think PHX is the best from PHL, MIA is good too but the airfare is just a little cheaper than PHX...
