Any US flyer have success upgrading a BA flight (WT+ to CW)?

Any US flyer have success upgrading a BA flight (WT+ to CW)?
... and having the miles post correctly in their USDM account?
I'm planning a flight from PHL-VIE in February and will buy a WT+ seat directly on BA and enter my USDM number (I'm CP) to receive OW Emerald benefits. I'm thinking about trying to use Avios to upgrade my PHL-LHR flight from WT+ to CW or potentially wait and pay for the upgrade. If I use Avios or pay for this upgrade, will I have any issues posting the miles to my USDM account? I've heard some stories about AA members having the fare class change to "U" which caused issues with posting miles to their AA accounts, even though they paid for the base WT+ ticket on an eligible fare class.
