According to the Internet Archive - http://web.archive.org/web/199701281...om/ftp_red.htm

back in 1997 it was 125,000 miles for a BA Concorde award and needed a 14 days advance reservation. I don't know if it was one way or not. Unlike the other awards on this page, it did not specify roundtrip.

I remember when 125K seemed like a lot of miles.

I remember when BA supersonic transport seemed like an aspirational transatlantic experience.

Now I have over a million miles, BA First Class is mediocre and costs more, and there's no Concorde.

How far have we come in 11 years?

But that was before the inflation of 50K-100K credit card sign up bonuses. However, back then you could get miles from eggos and I believe nurti bars.

It was still 125,000 miles in 2002 when I took it.

But it was actually 50,000 SPG points transferred to Qantas when they had a 1:2 transfer ratio.

So 50K SPG = 125K Qantas, which then turned into a OW redemption on partner BA in either First or Concorde (same fare bucket). For 100K SPG points, me and the misses had a great long weekend in London. 747 First over for the overnight iin the front cabin of 8 F seats in the nose, then a Concorde for the quick 3 hour hop back to JFK. Best. Use. Of. Miles. Ever.

Oh, those were the days.....
