Best value for US 40k and 2 companion certs

I was looking at using my miles 40k and 2 certs for us airways in July, more specifically July 4-14th, leaving FLL to SNA. They want 60K miles for that domestic flight! Is there a way to use those miles through other affiliates for less and still use the certificates?

What certificates are you referring to? What are the certificates' terms and conditions?

For spending on the US airways MasterCard I get 40k miles and 2 $99 dollar companion certificates. The only caveat I know of is I have to book with my USAirways card

Read the certificates carefully. Can they be used in conjunction with an award redemption ticket, or only in conjunction with a paid (cash) ticket?

I'd be surprised if the terms permit the certificates to be used for travel on any flight other than a US Airways/US Airways Express operated flight.

If there are four in your party, you can buy one (cash) ticket on US, use the certificates for two traveling companions on the same flight, and see if you can get a cheaper FLL-SNA redemption by using your miles on some other flights, operated either by AA or by US.

If you are flexible, you can also check fares and award-redemption rates out of alternate departure airports (like MIA and PBI), and into alternate destination airports (like LAX, LGB, ONT, and BUR).

Welcome to FlyerTalk... Since your query specifically concerns US Airways miles, the thread has been relocated to the dedicated airline forum for better feedback.

Thanks.

To use the two $99 companion certs you have to purchase a ticket of $250 or more using our US Air card.

The flight must be a US Metal

You probably want the companion-cert master thread.

The miles will be easier to use than the companion certificates. I had the US Barclay's card, and cancelled it before the fee was due. Was almost impossible to use the certs (& I'm a PHX US (& now AA thankfully) hub captive). The list of blackout dates listed on the back of the actual "certificates" on the "welcome kit" is obscenely long, and usually includes most holidays except for Arbor Day, Grandparents Day and National Fudgesicle day.
