US Airways Suspends Daily Flight From US to Tel Aviv

It looks like US Air is following Delta's lead and also canceling flights to Tel Aviv.

Flight 796, which began in Los Angeles, was canceled in Philadelphia before leaving for Tel Aviv.

UA has also suspended its TLV service. All USA carriers are following the FAA recommendation on this, but apparently European carriers are still literally flying to TLV at this time.

As of a check about two minutes ago, US (and UA) only show today's flights (7/22) to TLV canceled. 7/23 flights show 'on time'. I realize (and probably expect) this may change, but have not seen press releases from US (or UA) regarding suspension of service "until further notice" like DL put out (yet).

(That said, DL's flight for tomorrow is also showing on time still, so I think they all may still be figuring it out)

It appears US has a plane on the ground in TLV. The 7/21 departure of 796 arrived today (7/22) but the return 797 has been canceled.

wouldnt be a bit surprised if its flown out empty of passengers ASAP, once the crew is legal to fly and the crew that landed today will probably fly out as well. No sense leaving it sitting as a target on the tarmac, when it can be used on other routes to make some $$

Out of curiosity, what will US (and the other airlines) do with their planes that were supposed to be flying there?

I considered this, but will probably depend if it is safe for the crew to attempt. Alternatively, US could choose to evacuate the crew from the are by land (if deemed safer) if needed. It would leave the plane stranded, but the crew's safety is more important IMO.

True but hamas has been targeting the city of TelAviv and its surrounding citys and towns for weeks. Had MH not occured I dont believe the flights would have been CXed All hamas has to say is OK we will hold off firing any rockets into the greater TA area between these hrs so that everyone can get their planes and crews out, dont hold your breath for such an announcement, but you never know

The FAA has banned USA carriers from flying to or from TLV for 24 hours. I don't know whether this would apply to repositioning flights with crew but no passengers, but it sounds like the aircraft and crew might be stuck there tonight.

well the US Govt just promised hamas $47M youd think they could say thanks by holding fire into the TLV area so that any and all civilian planes and crews can get out w/o any fear even an hour would work to get that job done.

Kinda of think theyd give the OK to ferry the plane and crew out. The stuff hamas is using isnt guided so Id have better odds in winning the lottery then them hitting a plane. If they used shoulder missles thats another story.
In past flare ups it was the carriers ins companys that caused the CXs, since they pulled thier coverage for flights into or outof TLV. They didnt do it this time at least yet, even after MH17

the crews are no safer in TA or the plane sitting @ TLV, which if hamas had guidance missles would be another case all together

I could imagine some crew members, pilots or FAs, refusing to fly the ferry flight out, but then they could be stuck in Israel for quite a while.

FAs wouldn't be required for a ferry flight.
