Comp Upgrades for US Metal flights purchased on AA.com

I need to purchase a US Air metal flight on AA.com (I have a bunch of vouchers & certificates). I am a US Air Silver Preferred. Will I be eligible for my complimentary upgrades if I provide my Dividend Miles # when booking on AA.com? Thanks!

If booked with an AA flight number, no.

In February, as a US Silver, I flew US metal on an AA ticket, and my flight was "not eligible for upgrade" at the usual window. But at check in time, there were open F seats for sale as an upgrade, and as a Silver, I was able to select one for $0.

I booked international travel on AA.com that included domestic US Airways flights. I used my DM number.

I received my first email about upgrades within 6 hours.

So yes, booking US metal on AA.com using DM will still get swept for upgrades.

From US Air t/c: "Flights must be sold as a US Airways operated flight to be eligible; flight purchased as a codeshare through American Airlines or one of our partners will not be eligible for upgrade."

I feel your pain, being a Phoenix based traveler this is especially frustrating.

Is a US Flight on AA.com With Same Flt. # Really a Codeshare??

I purchased US flights on AA.com. The flight number for US is identical to the AA flight number. The screen at purchase and on my itinerary states "Operated by US Airways" next to the flight information. I used my DM number at point of purchase. But the Platinum Desk told me I'm not eligible for upgrades.

Under Preferred Upgrade Terms on the US website it states "Flights must be sold as a US Airways operated flight to be eligible; flight purchased as a codeshare through American Airlines or one of our partners will not be eligible for upgrade."

My purchase complied with the "flights must be sold as a US operated flight" requirement, because it stated such right on the itinerary. When the US flight had the identical flight number as the AA flight, I didn't think it was a codeshare -- my mistake I guess? If anything the rule is confusing.

Anyone have any different (better) experience? Thanks.

I don't think anything purchased through AA.com is eligible for upgrade at this point on US except for one off day of travel upgrades.

Same experience as CP. You are not eligible for upgrade if purchased as AA ticket operated by US.

You can purchase through aa.com and use your DM number with no problem. Upgrades process as they are tied to your number not where you buy the ticket. (and vice versa)

Do you know this from experience or are you just guessing because every post I've seen states different including the one before your post?

This is not true based on my experience.

At this time, flights booked on aa.com for US metal are not eligible for upgrade (much like it used to be for US flights booked at ua.com).

Unfortunately this is not accurate. I did use my DM number when I bought my ticket on AA.com. Given the way the flights are represented on AA.com with the same flight number as on US, I though I was buying a US flight rather than a codeshare. My mistake, I guess.

I have received 2 emails from the Platinum Desk this afternoon confirming that they do not upgrade tickets on US purchased thru AA.com. I was told that this is something they are working on as part of their system integration.

This was absolutely correct. Both flights had F availability at check-in, so F seats were offered for sale during online check-in as an upgrade. As a US Platinum, I was able to select 2 F seats on each flight for $0. Thanks for the heads-up!

Does any one know if the position has changed? I'm a US Chairman's booked on US flights (not AA codeshare) but via aa.com so AA ticket stock.

I just called US Airways and they say whats crucial is whether its a AA codeshare on US metal (will not be be swept for upgrades) rather than on AA ticket stock. This seems to contradict the above.

So in other words, US Chairman (or any US preferred for that matter) will be swept for upgrades when booked with AA.com so long as the flights are US not codeshare.

Is this understanding correct?

Here is the relevant T&C from USairways:

Flights must be sold as a US Airways operated flight to be eligible; flights purchased as a codeshare through American Airlines or one of our partners will not be eligible for upgrades.

http://www.usairways.com/en-US/divid.../upgrades.html

It's silent on whether US Airways operated but sold via AA.com qualifies for upgrades?
