US does allow trips to Asia via the Atlantic, albeit at a higher redemption level. LAS-MAN is offered non-stop on BD, but not-codeshared. MAN along with the other cities are reachable non-stop on US metal from PHL. These codeshares effectively allows US to offer 1-stop codeshare service to Asia from the PHL hub.

It's pretty obvious. Those are all cities in Europe to which US flies. This means it would be easier for US passengers to get to Singapore by flying US to AMS, ZRH etc. and then hopping on this SQ codeshare to get to SIN.

It's interesting which of the flights to/from NA are codeshared. Just:
SFO-HKG-SIN
SIN-LAX

Also, that US's CLT-JFK will get codeshared makes it a more sensible than it seemed when first introduced a few months ago. I'm guess a big point of adding it was *A connections like this.
