Can't change seat on seatmap but could select a seat on ghost purchase
Interesting little oddity today....
Got upgraded on upcoming CLT-SJU trip. EF says that there are 6 upgradeable seats left, so all should be OK. Tried to change seats to a better seat on the 332 but all seats are greyed out.
Yet, if I try a dummy booking on the same flight on the same date, there are plenty of seats to choose from.
Any idea what's up? Possible equipment swap coming down the pipe?

I have seen similar. Flying CLT-AUA later this week. If I want to buy tix, 3 D & F are available. However, I cannot move to those with my existing booking. (Maybe could if I called.) My wife is in 3C. Wanted to get D & F for me and granddaughter. Not a huge deal for it to actually happen, but the anomaly in the website was interesting.

Happens all the time. I can often see no seats available for my flight within 24 hours, but I immediately check-in and see seats available. The airline just reserves seats at different points in the process. Other are help for airport assignment only, bulkheads for handicap/lap children, etc.

It happened on both A330 flights. I was freely able to move all over the place on my DCA-CLT and CLT-DCA flights.
I ultimately called in and got the change done in 5 seconds (after 5 minutes of holding), but having to call in to get a seat assignment change is annoying. Especially when the 800 number extols the virtues and ease of changing seats online.
