NOTE: The nine low MTOW Pratt & Whitney PW4168 engine equipped Airbus Industrie A330-300s had been scheduled for retirement (returned to lessor at end of lease) by late 2018 2021 now due to poor "fit" in the AA fleet (link). (The A330-200s, with more compatible Rolls Royce Trent 700 engines, will continue, however.)

Premium Economy and extended Main Cabin Extra are not expected to be installed on the A330-300, at this time. It’s unpredictable if they might be refutted with the extended retirement dates.

That explains the 7:30a CLT-PHX A333 I was just able to book with a 25K First/Business Milesaver in March. Looks to be breakfast only, anything else I should expect to miss out on for this relatively short hop on the 330-300?

Has anyone confirmed that this actually happened? I just can't see them making the investment unless things have changed in their fleet plans and they've decided the A330-300s are now staying around past 2018.

Scratching my head as why they would make the investment as well. Not an expert, but is that a wi-fi antenna on top? Picture taken 12/28/17.
AC in San Salvador for wifi install? 11/18-11/30/17, and currently there again.

That looks like a satellite wifi bubble, yeah.

Given that people have reported new cabins/updates and now this, IMO, it is safe to say the 333 will not be gone as soon as originally thought.

If that's the case, from flipping through pics on jetphotos.com it looks like N271AY through N274AY have had the satellite antenna installed.

I think that's a good thing -- although sometimes I like the excuse to have to be disconnected from the Internet for eight hours.

Is there any news on the activation of WiFi on the 333's? I've only seen reports that it's installed but not yet active. I've got a trip coming up at the end of March and was wondering if there's any chance it'll be actually active by then.

Thanks!

Bulkhead middle seat or main cabin aisle?

I’m flying on an A330-300 CLT to FCO this week. I paid for main cabin extra - row 8 middle seat (bulkhead) but am not second guessing myself. I’m a big guy and need extra space for the tray table. I’m worried that the armrest tray table won’t be big enough for me to use it comfortably. I can use a tray table in a regular seat just fine. Also - I can’t tell if there’s enough legroom for me to get out of my seat without the person on the aisle getting up first. Also worried about whether there are power ports in the bulkhead seats. The free alcohol is nice though.

What do you all recommend - stay where I am or move to a main cabin aisle seat?

Since the A333's are sticking around longer, will the Premium Economy section be added?

They really do need to re-evaluate this. The 333s were suppose to be phased out starting at the end of this year. Now they will be around for another 3 years. We're only talking about 21 PE seats per plane for a total of 9 aircraft. These PE seats are basic stock seats. Not much of an effort needed to do this.

I'm sure the beancounters did the math, but it seems like lost revenue to me. The A333 runs on business heavy routes like PHL-LHR and CLT-LHR which have no competition and would surely sell PE seats.
