Dividend Miles Accrual and Upgrades
Travel is eligible for Dividend Miles accrual, accrual in other airline programs not permitted. Dividend Miles Preferred upgrades are permitted subject to the rules of the upgrade being used. All Dividend Miles Terms and Conditions apply.
Additional guidelines for booking
1) You must call US Airways reservations; you cannot book this type of ticket on line.
2) The certificate must be used by YOU, you cannot have someone else and two companions use it.
3) You must book you and any companions at the same time as you on the same routing and PNR as you. One companion cannot break off and go a different direction for one segment.
4) You must use your US Airways Mastercard to make the purchase.
5) You must mail in the certificate after you make the purchase. The address is printed on the certificate (US Airways office in Winston-Salem, NC). (They insist that you retain proof of mailing within 24 hours of booking)
6) There should NOT be a telephone booking fee for this as you can't book this type of fare any other way.
7) It should be possible to split the PNR after booking (this may be beneficial for those hoping for an upgrade as a preferred member, or if the card holder can no longer travel on the days originally booked) YMMV.
8) Any changes to the tickets after booking are subject to the current change fees listed on the US Airways website.
9) Ticket must be booked at least 14 days in advance of travel. (Agents may try to tell you that it needs 15 days because the day of travel is not counted. Even supervisor will insist on it. Do not buy that. Hang up and redial. You need usual 14 days advance booking)
10) You can cancel within 24 hours of booking and you will retain the certificate if you have not mailed it. But they will not make any changes to reservations even within 24 hours due to the third sentance under the Change/Refunds section in the T&C.

Am I reading this incorrectly? What would be the point of splitting a 2-person PNR into two different PNRs? Was your companion opposed to receiving an upgrade and wanted to ensure it wouldn't happen? Or is there another issue here that I'm missing. Thanks.

A lot of time they release upgrade seats one at a time... or if the release two, if you are not one and two, you get skipped.

But wouldn't this prevent a non-elite companion from getting upgraded? Or is there a workaround to upgrade someone not in the PNR (other then using miles, of course)?

I split the 2-person PNR because we are both CP and I knew I could get 1 upgrade but not both. Only one seat open in FC.

I got my certificate today. Four questions...
1) It says that if I book a round trip my companion gets A flight. Singular, not plural. If I book a roundtrip with a connection both ways (4 flights) does my companion get those same 4 flights, or just 1? Sounds stupid, but they repeatedly refer to my roundtrip and my companion's flight.
2) Any risk of USAir denying they got my certificate in the mail, so my companion ticket isn't good, but I can't cancel mine?
3) On line some one said that even though it says to mail to "US Airways-TBM" that is a typo and should be "US Airways-TBC". Could that be right?
4) It says only USAir flights. How about "Operated by Republic Airlines dba US Airways"
Yeah, I know I sound paranoid, but I want to make sure this works out. Thanks.

1. A round trip with connecting flights will be fine, if it meets the geographic and date restrictions.
2. From what's been said here, that's never been an issue; it sounds like people have gotten by sending the certificate late, and possibly not sending it at all, but don't hold anyone to that.
3. Don't know.
4. That's allowed.

I'm gearing up to book some tix w/ the companion tix. Spouse and I both have companion and so will need to each get full price ticket then add the 4 extras at $100 a piece.
--Must we book our full pay tix separately or can we be on one PNR?
--Also, can we book on American metal? I'm seeing better connections with AA flights than with USAirways flights. I thought these tix were restricted to USAirways but previous reply suggests "operated by" are okay, too.

No. You may wish to view the information on the back of the certificate. US Airways Express flights are always operated by another carrier. Codeshare flights, such as AA, are a different animal. You'll be able to book AA metal after the systems merge near the end of the year.

Since each certificate allows up to 2 companions with each full pay pax, I think it would have to be structured as 2 PNRs (each PNR with Full Pay + Companions) for the system to recognize it.

So, a mystery cleared up.
Someone asked above, "On line some one said that even though it says to mail to 'US Airways-TBM' that is a typo and should be 'US Airways-TBC.' Could that be right?"
When I used my Certificate a couple of weeks ago, I thought the CSR had said, "TBC," while the actual certificate said "TBM." I used the address on the actual Certificate since the written terms are what will control here. (You can trust me on this.)
I'm sure US Airways will manage to cope somehow, but at least now I know I'm not the only one who noticed a difference. It's amazing what you can learn on FlyerTalk, really.
As for booking AA metal, I think Carl's a real optimist. I frankly doubt US/AA will become one airline before the Certificates all expire at 12/31/15. We'll see, I guess.
