92 and still waiting for miles

I've been trying to help my 92 year old mother in law (God love her) to get
her miles for a flight back to the USA from Vienna - from way back last year
at this time. My saga starts on 11/1/06 when I wrote to ask where her miles
were - she had already received the Lufthansa portion (9/23/06) on the way there, but not on the way back. This was a flight from Vienna on United flight 9301 Class W (operated by SAS flight 694 Class M) to Copenhagen
Denmark - then Denmark to Chicago ORD on United flight 9391 Class W
(operated by SAS flight 943 Class M).

I had to send originals of the boarding passes to DM - luckily kept copies
of the travel receipt, itenerary from travel company, and boarding passes.

DM refuses to give her the miles - saying SAS does not give miles for "W"
status. I keep saying, the boarding passes say "M" on SAS boarding pass,
and "W" on United (yes, there are 2 each boarding passes for the same flights - four in all, one for SAS, one for United).

Then one agent referred me to the bottom of the Star Alliance Mileage
Accrual Chart that says something about not giving miles "on selected
Swedish or Norwegian" flights - well, deary, Copenhagen is in Denmark.
And those restricted flights are within Sweden and Norway from what I gather.

They kept putting me off, having me wait more months for the credit -
even though I said, you guys will not do it after 6 months and now you
want me to continually "wait". Then they came up with the M & W
stuff, then one agent said sure I'll get you the miles, then I resent all the
stuff, no miles, another agent said they have reviewed and I won't get them,
sighting again the M & W stuff.

I gave up last February until now - I had surgery and it was a long haul to
recover. But now I have all the correspondence in front of me again and it
just erks me to no end that they won't give this 92 year old woman her
miles. They are so stubborn and make no sense as to why she has not
been credited.

If it says they will credit for United "W" and SAS "M" - I don't understand how they cannot honor the boarding passes that say just that.

Yesterday I decided to be calm and start this procedure all over again -
I told them all the above and they said I was entitled to the miles - but
to call back on Monday - oh, geesh - another round of this.....

Anybody out there that can help me understand why they won't give her the miles, or how I can show them they do indeed owe them to her? The agent
yesterday said she would note the "run around" I've gotten and it was up
to someone "higher up" to waive the length of time they've led me around.

I'm so frustrated...........

Thanks..........

UPDATE: Was told the BP Class M & W was for seating class and not
"fare basis" - and it was fare basis Class W all the way. Nice to
confuse us folks.

So even though it was booked on United with a W fare basis, it was flown
on SAS and SAS used the W so won't credit the miles. How else should this be booked to get the miles?

Sounds like a bait and switch to me - and just plain wrong. How is a normal
person going to know if the flight they are purchasing (and flown by
another airline) is going to credit miles or not.

I still don't get it -

This was 4,800 miles gone to waste.......

The answer is a normal person wouldn't. Us mileage-crazed FT'ers would. We always make certain of the fare class before clicking on the "buy" button.

Just because you bought a ticket from UA doesn't mean that all flights were UA-coded. That's the kicker.

If UA sold a ticket that was UA123 connecting to SAS 1234, then the second leg is an SAS ticket. If it's UA 234 operated by SAS, then it's a UA ticket.

It's my opinion you're getting screwed.

Try asking again, mentioning only the UA flight numbers and see if that changes anything. Also, was this on UA or SAS stock? Also, you might be better served to leave out the "she's 92" - it's irrelevant and makes it look like you're just out for a favor.

Wirelessly posted (probably driving while typing: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows CE; IEMobile 6.12))

similarly, klm prints m on all economy tickets regardless of paid class. it may not be fare, but us is not the only one playing this game.

Similar Question:

So if I have a UN issued ticket in S class on LH metal, I'll get full miles, but the return which is UN issued on a LH flight number on LH metal, I'll only get 50% credit... So in actuality, I get 100% and 50% for each portion...

Correct?

i could live with 75% of course.... better than 50% since they changed the accrual in the latest USAir updated table...
