1. the route and date
2. your status
3. fare purchased
4. if/when your upgrade cleared
5. method of upgrade
6. the load when you actually flew (open envoy seats?)
7. any additional comments (i.e. "The guy sitting next to me was a Gold and had cleared three days out but his Silver Pref buddy was in coach ..." etc. etc.)

Any reports?
1. PHL - LGW, 12/27/04
2. US1
3. B booking class
4. Upgrade cleared at the time the reservation was made
5. Chairman's Pref Transatlantic upgrade coupon
6. Only 1 Envoy Class empty passenger seat after doors were closed, and of course the 1 Envoy Class seat reserved for the crew.
7. At the London Gatwick US Airways' Arrivals Lounge, I had a chance to see the list of all Envoy Class passengers on my flight while the lounge attendant looked up my name: there were 4 people booked in "R", 1 in "I", like 20 pax booked in "C", and many others in "Z".

1. (BUF-)PHL-MAD, 18 Feb
2. US2
3. Esaver - possibly W?
4. Cleared at gate in PHL
5. DS0087 Space Available Cert
6. 100% in both classes, 4 bumps
7. Front cabin was zeroed out the day prior to departure. Two no-shows in Envoy permitted me into C (the only one on the UG list) and one bump from Y. Unlike last time when the upgrade cleared into R, this one cleared into E so no bonus miles.

All my intl upgrades have been booked in "R" and neither my partner nor I have ever received bonus miles for that booking code.

That's odd.. Here are my most recently upgraded flights on PHL-MAD-PHL:

18-FEB-05 US 0012 E PHL MAD 3,682 3,682 7,364 <-- DS0087
06-JAN-05 US 0011 V MAD-PHL 3,682 3,682 7,364 <-- OP UP
15-DEC-04 US 0012 V PHL-MAD 3,682 5,523 9,205 <-- DS0087

Unfortunately, the system shows you the ticketed booking class rather than flown booking class when requesting previous months, but I'm 90% sure that the 15 DEC upgrade was booked into R. The only thing I can think of is that this was done at YYZ so the agent might not have been used to processing the certs and just pulled a revenue seat.

PHL->FCO

Lucky this past weekend...

1. PHL-FCO on 2/18
2. Silver Pref
3. V Class
4. Not upgradeable anymore
5. Flight was oversold in coach; when I got to airport checkin desk told me they had upgraded me to Envoy earlier in the afternoon b/c of the oversale.
6. From what I could tell, the whole flight was full in Envoy and Coach
7. Friend traveling with me was Gold Pref, but somehow didn't have DM number in reservation, so was not upgraded. Checkin desk said to ask at gate. Went to the gate, "smiled" at the gate agent and politely told him what happened, mentioned it was my birthday, and if he could upgrade my friend as well. Must have been my lucky day, because he didn't even flinch, both of us flew in Envoy.

1. FCO-PHL on 2/21
2. Silver Pref
3. V Class
4. Not upgradeable anymore
5. Same deal... flight oversold in coach. Had to battle it out at the gate on this one though.
6. Same thing -- whole plane looked full.

So in the end... $400 ticket that I tried to upgrade with miles, but was told that I couldn't b/c V class is no longer upgradeable transatlantic... and I got to sit upfront without coughing up the miles!

1. phl-fra 2-17 / fra-phl 2-21
2. cp + buddy (he is us4 & ua1k)
3. V
4. at gate for me, not for comp / day before for both
5. ta cert
6. none / 7 open
7. got row 1 on return

get this. i checked in at pit 10 hrs prior to phl-fra, and was told there were 8 empty seats and i and buddy were 1&2 on waitlist. i got to phl, and talked to an agent at the neighboring gate at 2hrs prior to flight time. was told i was still 1&2 and there were "several" open seats. at 1:15 prior to flight time i was told i got the upgrade, but not my buddy - he was now #1 on waitlist. soon after they announced envoy checked in full. i boarded and watched envoy fill up (except crew seat).

anybody have any idea what happened?

1. US 3 FCO-PHL, Feb 18
2. None (Well, UA Prem Exec but that doesn't matter)
3. H class
4. At time of request (early Dec)
5. US miles
6. Less than 20 in total
7. Quite empty. Row 1 had five passengers, there were three or four in the rear mini-cabin.

I liked having this thread for reference so decided I would pull it out and add to it....

1. PHL-LGW
2. US3
3. H
4. Gate - halfway through boarding - went to board assuming no chance but asked the GA who said double check at the counter - guy said "oh yeah, your next on the list, let me call you)
5. DS00087 (TA Space Available Cert)
6. Oversold
7. 6/30

1. LGW-PHL
2. US3
3. V
4. Ticketing - just handed the cert with my passport and was handed back an Envoy BP - never mentioned it
5. DS00087 (TA Space Avail. Cert)
6. Full
7. 8/9

as an aside - the service on the way back was steller

My report... Some of this stuff is invariant with the segments, so I'll put it up the top:

2. *G (bmi gold), no US status
3. booking class W - Ł299 + tax R/T LGW-(CLT)-SFO-(PHL)-LGW
5. DS0087 Space Available Transatlantic Upgrade

Now the actual sectors:

1. LGW-CLT US95 17/9/2005: success!
4. Envoy boarding pass issued at checkin
6. I was in a bulkhead seat in the rear Envoy mini-cabin, so it was difficult to tell; probably 80% though.
7. A330. Envoy lounge invitation issued (although I'm *G), boarding pass indicated class R.

1. CLT-SFO US1167 17/9/2005: success!
4. Went on the list at the Club, upgrade to First cleared at gate.
6. Didn't see many empty seats.
7. A321. Boarding pass again indicated class R.

1. SFO-PHL US14 19/9/2005: success!
4. Went on the list at checkin; was told there were four open seats in F at that time, but that was 2 hours before the flight.
6. Aircraft went out full.
7. A321. When I got to the gate, I asked the agent about the list: he said 'the aircraft is completely full' and didn't even check. Then, two minutes later as I was pondering a transcon in 34C (I think), I got called to the desk and issued with a new boarding pass for 1D! Boarding pass indicated class E. No club at SFO, and no Star Alliance partner lounge in the terminal - sucks: used the Delta CRC with my Priority Pass.

1. PHL-LGW US98 19/9/2005: success!
4. Tight connection: got to gate after boarding had started, but got the upgrade at that point anyway.
6. One or two free seats in the 'main' Envoy cabin.
7. A330. Boarding pass indicated class C. Arrivals lounge at LGW is nice - really nice shower rooms.

Glad to see this thread resurrected! Sorry for the late post.

1. PHL-LGW 3 June - Success!
2. US Silver
3. H fare
4. Waitlisted when booked. Upgrade cleared at gate before boarding started. Saw a change of GA who was giving new boarding passes rather than the prev GA who was making notes/asking people to sit and wait. Did not go to Club lounge.
5. used DM
6. A few open seats

1. LGW-PHL 29 August - Success!
2. Still Silver *sigh*
3. W fare
4. Despite Club ladies efforts, upgrade did not clear until at gate/after boarding had begun.
5. DS0087
6. Only about 10 PAX in Envoy!
7. As previously posted, UK bank hol Monday great day to fly LGW-PHL!
