Standby on e-saver?

Standby on e-saver?
I purchased an e-saver DCA-BOS for this weekend. I now need to get back to DCA earlier on Sunday, but the return flight is at 8 pm. I called US to ask if I could standby and was told no. I just wanted to ask the question here because FTers know more than the agents most of the time.
So...can I standby for an earlier flight with an e-saver ticket?

I also just purchased an e-saver PVD-PHL for this weekend ($128, it's cheaper than driving!). I have the same question. Has anyone had any success recently with the new standby policy? The ticket clearly says no standby allowed, but aren't rules meant to be broken?
