Will UA/US recognize segments as well as miles?
 

I got to United 1K by segments. If I travel on US, will those segments count be recognized towards elite status, or only the miles flown?

30 segments gets you Silver Preferred; 50 gets you Gold (or is it 60?); 100 for CP.

A lot of people make preferred on segments due to the close proximity of cities in the northeast and mid-atlantic.

Let me rephrase: If I do 90 segments on UA and 10 on US, will the US segments count towards 2002/2003 UA elite status? Or do only the miles count?

Well, as of yet, there has been no program merging.

The "official" statement on USairways website is :

Both airlines recognize and value your loyalty. Dividend Miles preferred status will be honored through February 28, 2002. The qualification levels for United's preferred tiers mirror US Airways' and qualification for 2002 - 2003 preferred status will be based on combined qualifying mileage across both programs.


But as you have noted it doesn't mention anything about segments. I would probably assume thet their intent is to include combined segments as well but it is only an assumption.
