I just came here specifically for the purpose of posting this very question.

Put another way, do you get a second bonus once you do a trade? I got 2500 for opening an account. If I do a trade in it, how will US suddenly know I did a trade? Maybe if the argument were that you needed to set up for a monthly investment plan, US would somehow know it. But that would be much more sophisticated reporting from sharebuilder to US than we've come to be accustomed to for many of the partners.

My hunch is there is maybe something else going on here that's making it tough for people to identify with precision what counts as a hit. I haven't had any bonus miles post yet despite many hits. Clearly something is going on at US that is causing some delay. And it wouldn't surprise me if the moment that bonuses are posting is not the same moment in time at which they took a snapshot to figure out how many hits you have. So, anyone trying to make conclusions based on activity that posted yesterday may be making faulty assumptions. Something is going on at US and I wouldn't be surprised if there are a few bugs they haven't worked out yet.

Grand Slam hit bonus miles posted for me this morning.
I also got an email in my Sharebuilder account saying that I am eligible for the 2500 bonus miles. I did not fund my account. The 2500 miles also showed up in my Dividends account a couple of days ago. Looks like you do not need to fund to get the miles and the hit.

From what others have posted today, it's possible to receive the 2500 miles for simply opening up a Sharebuilder account, but so far there is no solid evidence that just opening up an account will count as a hit towards the tier bonus miles (3000 for 4 hits, an additional 7000 for reaching 8 hits, etc.). Unless, when you say your "Grand Slam bonus miles posted", you are referring the the tier bonus miles posting, and in such a way that you know your Sharebuilder counted as an actual hit?

Technically you are only supposed to get 2500 if you open and account AND do a trade. But they have been rewarding the points without doing the trade. Maybe a mistake, maybe they changed the rules--who knows. But I have a bad feeling that US Airways is only giving a hit by fulfilling this second part:

"If a member subscribes to the ShareBuilder Standard or Advantage Investing Program each month during a calendar quarter, they will receive 500 additional bonus miles for every active quarter during the calendar year."

I guess I'm dubious that US's back-end systems are sophisticated enough to track somehow that you did a trade without any miles posting from it.

My best guess is they assumed the 2500 wouldn't be awarded by ING unless you did the trade, but ING is awarding it anyway. As long as ING doesn't revoke the miles, I'd say it would count as a hit.

As for why it doesn't seem to be counting, it seems the first posted Tuesday, with the cutoff for the first hits sweep on Wednesday (although they didn't start turning up until today). It's possible it was too late to make the first sweep.

If you read the Terms and Conditions, you'll see under non-qualifying partner activity:
The following activities do not count as qualifying partner activity or hits:
...
  • Recurring partner bonuses including but limited to the ShareBuilder 500 mile quarterly bonus and the USA Today 100 mile monthly bonus

For those who got SB 2,500 bonus miles posted on their accounts the previous Tuesday (September 20th), did you see SB activity counted if you completed exact sets of 4 hits (ie 4, 8, 12 hits, and etc)? If it was counted as a hit for them, there is a good chance those that got SB 2,500 bonus miles posted this Tuesday (September 27th) which includes myself didn't get their SB hits as they somehow missed US Airways internal unknown deadline for this round of sweep and thus would have to wait for the next round of hit inclusion in 2 weeks.

I'm going to go in and say that Shareholder is counting. I didn't realize it, but I had exactly 8 hits posted, including Shareholder, and got the 8k bonus.

No promises here or anything, because I've done 5 or 6 more that aren't up there, and my biscoff just posted to make it 9 showing in the account.

Just my thoughts...there's really no way for US to know IMO

I'm staying positive and saying this is what happened to me. My SB miles hit my account as:

9/26/2011 09/27/11 SHAREBUILDER REGISTRATION MILES 2,500

With 9/27 as the post date, I'm guessing I missed the cutoff for the first sweep. Either that or my account is one of the delayed ones.

Oddly, Biscoff and TrackItBack hit today, so now I'll never know for sure unless my future hits are incrementally right when future sweeps occur (and who knows when those will be - timing is the key).

In the next two weeks, I'll have quite a few more hits post to my account, so while I initially thought I might be the guinea pig, I don't think I will be now. The only chance is that I get the first round of 3K for four hits in the next 24 hours since that will mean that it counted (since the Biscoff and TIB posts only hit today).

This "game" just became way more complicated...

I, too can now confirm that SB without funding and/or trading counts as a hit. I had exactly four hits as of this morning (two more hit today, but I assume those happened after the sweep cutoff) and SB was one of those hits.
