Probably something (Waterford bell or Swarovski knick-knack) that has since vanished. 1800Flowers' sale items are about as ephemeral as it gets.

For the latest (read: still available) cheap hit, see http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/2011-...er-thread.html. Right now it's -- I am not making this up -- the Lenox Pierced Ribbon Votives.

When people are talking about their costs, are you valuing the points or miles you have to give up?

I mean, 10k marriott points to get a hit is not exactly free? How do people value that sort of stuff?

It varies by individual as to how you value other points/miles. But yeah for me personally the hotel transfers are a pretty bad value. Some of them are really horrible exchanges (like Hilton). I could only see doing that if I had orphaned HHonors points that I could never use for anything else.

Yup -- even valuing each hit at 5,000 miles, I prefer 10,000 Marriott to 7,000 US.

I guess where the hotel hits start to make more sense is when you need one hit to get to the next tier and don't have anything better.

My hits don't include car and hotel transfers/stays yet. That cost is going to be much higher. I value 10K marriot points at about $75, A night is going to cost 20K points which is equal to about $150 on average.

Same for Hyatt, 5K points will get you a night at Hyatt place which will be about $75.

BW - I purchased 3K points for $30, hoping to get remaining using topguest

Choice - netflix - 2K + BFG - 1.5K + Topguest 1.5K - about $12

Priority - netflix - 3000 + stamps.com 3.5K + erewards 2.2k + topguest - about $9

Hilton - had about 5K balance + topguest + e-rewards - about $10

LQ - hoping to get everything from e-rewards , may end up buying points - about $40

I'm up to 8 hits tonight, with 12 more definitely attainable in the next couple weeks. Found a local Choice hotel for $40/night, which I'll try to knock out a few times as well, depending what's left in my allotted GS budget. Alack, if only I were old enough to rent a car! I will be a few days before GS is over, so maybe I can cram in a few hits then.

Today's:

1) Miles purchase (20k, $295.63 a/i)
2) e-Miles point transfer
3) DM shopping through Amazon (~$55, and I needed it anyway)
4) toolbar/searches
5) TrackItBack purchase ($24.94 a/i)
6) ThanksAgain purchase through iTunes ($1.29)
7) SkyMall purchase ($12.95 a/i)
8) Netflix subscription ($7.99/m)

Also, did anyone else have trouble with Magazines for Miles? I was on the right site (i.e., not Mileage Magazine Rewards or whatnot), but I kept getting an error message that my session had expired.

I'm wondering how long the bigfishgames 1500 pts bonus will take to post.

I'm at 8 hits and, as I'm testing Vinesse to see if something other that a subscription will count as a hit, I need to ensure that I run in batches of 4.

Might push it to 12 in the next few days but there's plenty of time ahead and my hotel stays and rental cars will all be had in Oct.

I'm up to 21 hits earned (with Officemax being iffy).

Also 6 hotel stays booked. And I booked 2 rentals for next Monday and Tuesday. That brings me up to 29. I figure 4 more cheap rentals is doable, which makes 33. And there are 1 or 2 hotel transfers I could do by buying points or transferring from other programs that are marginally worthwhile. Add teleflora maybe and I'll be maxed out.

I'm on track for something like $350 total outlay (including rentals but not hotel stays).
