Is United Altering Their Meal Times/Service?
Hi:
I have several PVD-ORD flights scheduled. This flight has always been a "Dinner" service. Strangely, the flights I have scheduled through the remainder of October continue to list "Dinner", but starting in November they list "Refreshments" instead. Even more oddly, if I try to book a new first class ticket for, say, November, "Dinner" is still listed.
As another data point, an ORD-BOS flight that I have in December is still listed as "Dinner" even though it is roughly the same time/mileage as PVD-ORD. So, I am a bit confused.
Has anyone heard whether United is planning to revamp when they offer meal service beginning 1 November? Just curious. Thanks!

As with everything else, your best bet is to call UA to ask.
The UA website is uniquely unhelpful on the subject of meals. It tends to properly indentify "food" vs. "no food" without getting specific meals correct.

there are tons of display errors associated with meals on UA.bomb
my recent redeye from KOA-SFO displayed as "lunch", which should have been "snack" but in fact nothing was served that i am aware of (i did briefly fall asleep after take off but only for 30 minutes or so).
a good bet if if the flight departs between 4-7 you will get a bit of a "meal". outside that window i have found it to be a major crap shoot, and even inside of it there are no guarantees anymore.

Here's the dinner-time PVD-ORD schedule.
Mainline is a mix of dinner and refreshments, express for the winter is all refreshments. D is dinner, R is refreshments, G is food for purchase.
The cabins listed are first/business/economy, but none of these flights have business so you can ignore the middle on.
The dinnertime ORD-BOS are always dinner, except Friday Dec 6, Monday Dec 9, and Friday Dec 13 which don't show any meal info but are probably dinner.

Instead, I follow this outline and hope I'm American enough to know the "traditional meal times."
For example, my most recent DCA-ORD flight at 6:30 pm said "Dinner" on the app and on our reservation but it should have been "refreshments." Yeah right I said to my fiance... don't believe that at all. As I predicted no dinner and we didn't even get the snack basket.

The display within reservations is definitely wonky. My SFO-YVR flight next month showed Breakfast until last weekend, and now it shows Refreshments. But a dummy booking still shows Breakfast, so I'm guessing/hoping that the booking engine is a more reliable indicator.
I don't think it's a time-change issue as my 755a flight should have Breakfast even an hour earlier or later.
