[False Alarm] AA Imposing YQ on Int'l award tix...UA please don't follow the pack

With AA adding YQ to all international award tickets on all One World carriers as of today (Aug 28th), will United ultimately follow in their footsteps since we all know what a free thinker UA is these days...perhaps this ultimately will set UA apart from the rest of pack especially given new status requirements next year and continued devaluation of miles in other programs. Please please UA actually maintain a differentiating quality for MP.

Treasure what you have here, folks. It is going to get darker. I suspect they will charge YQ definitely on AC. If they do it for NH, NZ, and OZ, just like what AP does, bam.

I have a feeling that UA will use route network and low mileage redemption options as primary reason to differentiate between the programs...

I also have a feeling that UA will eventually hop on the YQ train ... soon (right after DL announces it).

I would agree a part of your argument, network. I wouldn't think they won't consider the YQ especially when they a following the footsteps of DL for MQDs in 2014.

Fuel surcharge. Essentially it would mean this portion of the ticket would have to be paid, and only the fare itself would be covered by the miles. It can be significant:

If I were considering an int'l award itinerary, I would definitely book it RIGHT NOW.

AA changed its program without notice to anyone, and has only confirmed the change in response to blogger inquiries.

Hah does seem like a "save face" response and a retreat from the backlash. Good to know though...for now.
