The company has only ordered 11 planes in this config and plans to increase frequencies on JFK-LAX/SFO to use them. Those are the markets where there really is the higher yields and those are the markets where they want to compete. There isn't much point in putting the premium service on LGB-FLL. There's no demand for it there.

Because it's not about RASM or CASM - it's about net income. 16 premium revenue seats (at $1,500-$2,000 each) instead of 47 lower revenue seats (at $400 or, at peak times, $500 each) is a win.

The real question is whether the B6 pilots contract pays a significant premium for A321 flying vs A320 flying...anyone know?

Source that they have very few corporate contracts?

As for the market they're attacking, it is pretty clear that they want in on the higher yields that the transcon premium service offers and that's really only on those two routes.
Hasn't it been rumored that BOS-LAX/SFO may see the premium product down the line? The market is obviously not nearly as big but there could be some potential. Especially since the legacies don't offer anything close to that quality of product on their respective BOS-LAX/SFO flts.

The release says, "Additional markets are possible, based on customer response and demand for more service." I'm betting against it growing, at least for now. With 11 planes in the subfleet there isn't a lot of wiggle room, though one or two more routes might be possible.

That no one else offers it and that the market is not very big is exactly why it seems unlikely to happen. They don't need to be there for competitive reasons and they won't be able to realize the same yields. Seems unlikely to me for at least a few years yet.

Given that some transcon premium passengers have lounge access, United and Delta Air Lines for example. I wonder if Jet Blue will create some sort of lounge for its business/first passengers.

JFK T5 is getting the same brand of paid lounge that BWI has. B6 could hypothetically comp passes.

FWIW, Delta announced their seat choice for the 752 transcons today, too. They're going with the sCO seat, same as what United is putting in the new p.s. config. Delta will keep them only in the forward zone on the plane so only 16 C seats on board. Then 44 EC seats (35" pitch) and 108 Y seats (31").
