(UA's Express Dine) "We can do that in business class, but not in first"
That was the response of the FA on my recent SFO-LHR flight when I asked to have my meal delivered quickly so I could get the maximum time to sleep.
They did try to do their best, but I now realize that a rapid meal service, which is an option in business, is not listed or available in first -- instead there is some sort of "executive meal service" that apparently allows you to specify a later meal service than usual.
Fascinating, isn't it!

Reason: vague thread title
I was on Sfo-syd in F this week and asked for express dine - which they said they could not do. It does seem crazy that the service is available in C but not in F. Also, it's a shame we still do not get something to change into to sleep in for these longer flights. UA should be developing now their next generation C and F product rather than stand still in the market to keep it fresh!

My feeling is it is further evidence that they intend long term to kill all international first.
I've never had this problem in UA F, I think you got a crew that just didn't want to do it. I've both asked to have a the meal service done quickly and asked to have it served a couple hours into flight rather than straight away, never have I been told they couldn't do that. And lets be honest here, this isn't a "can't" its a "don't want to".

maybe they just give you so much food in F they can't fit it on a tray?
Maybe that was the disconnect, the express dine in C is everything on one tray and yes maybe can't really do that in F due to the plate sizes BUT they very much can expedite the delivery of your courses/remove courses you don't want to achieve the same result.

You just have to ask early enough. Someone else took my meal order in F ord to gru and forgot to note express. By the time I noticed I was getting appetizer etc at the same pace as everyone else, I said something but my FA and she said there was no way to speed up a thawing cioppino, and was very apologetic. I easily lost 30 min of sleep on that deal. It's a shame you would need to double check something like that.
Edited to add: i only wanted appetizer and entree, nothing else, so tray space would not be an issue.
I don't think there is any doubt that this management team intends to kill off international first.
Bring it on, UAL GlobalFirst is a joke might as well just offer BusinessFirst. Even with the enhancements at AA it remains to be seen if higher service standards will materialize on the handful of 77W aircraft featuring the new Flagship Suite.

You have lamented of being 5'6" in your rant demanding removal of Economy Plus previously, so perhaps you aren't affected by the short length and small footwells in J class. I'm thankful the airline still offers intl. F for my tall frame.
