AA also announced LAX-RDU, which is an interesting transcon.
I dunno if it's a reaction or just a coincidence, but UA has just filed an LAX-RDU G fare that I see as low as $203 a/i r/t (UA1410 + UA4323 4/30 LAX-IAH-RDU, UA894 + UA894 5/2 RDU-IAD-LAX).

AA used to fly HOU-LGA, but of course that flight would not have been well-suited for International connections.
I believe DL used to fly the JFK-IAH route, although it may have been a 50 seater.
Jet Blue currently flies HOU-JFK and could provide feeder traffic for AA international flights.
UA did adjust some fares on IAH-EWR when Southwest started flying HOU-EWR. But it is still a very expensive route. I would not expect much response unless UA sees a drop-off in International connecting traffic originating in Houston.

Fares for one night trips are lower on IAH-LGA. It used to be that only B and Y were offered when staying only one night. Now lower fare classes are available for one night trips.

if i am not mistaken DL flew this route for awhile as well. for a short time in the mid/late-2000's they also had LAX-JAX which was one of my favorite and arguably one of the more obscure transcon routes flown.

why doesn't UA try to push into JFK more? looking at the timetable and UA doesn't seem to fly much out of there. i don't have any proof but my gut tells me both PMCO and PMUA didn't push very hard there either. couple key routes (the p.s. routes for example), but it's predominantly LGA and EWR, even in the pre-merger world, and neither of them look like they tried very hard.
why is that? even after the slots they got from pan am, was this all they had or did they just sort of give up on JFK? no trolling, i just find it kind of curious.

EWR
As a hub in the UA system, EWR gets the NYC focus. And with EWR & IAD as the east coast international gateways, there isn't much left for JFK (outside of PS).

I don't see the point of pushing hard into JFK. UA has its hub in EWR to serve as the international gateway in the New York area, and LGA handles a lot of NYC O&D domestic traffic, which is so much closer to the city compared to JFK. So why bother going into JFK?
