Flight #145 IAD-HNL diverted twice in two days? Why?
Hi all. I noticed today that flight 145 from IAD-HNL is being diverted to IAH. It was up at FL320, dropped down to FL240, then FL200, and it just keeps getting lower. It's around 10000 feet now. Anyone know what's up with the flight?
I noticed that it was also diverted yesterday in similar fashion. What's going on? Is it the same plane?

Any idea on what the problem might be? And was it the same issue yesterday?
I'm a little concerned because I'm flying HNL-EWR in a few days and I know that this equipment is part of a small sub-fleet so chances are decent that I'll be on one of these planes that's having problems.
Those unrefurbished Air Micronesia 767s appear to need some maintenance attention.
As a result, today's UA UA 104 from HNL-SFO and UA 73 back to HNL tonight are recently refurbished 767-400s with many more lie flat seats in the front cabin and a bigger E+ section. As a result, 73 is oversold and they are flogging $250 VDB compensation to go out the next day.
Mrs. Transportprof and I are in a good position for CPUs on 73 as a result, although two great seatsin row 12 disappeared with the equipment change.

I can't imagine anyone giving up a day in Hawaii for $250. How cheap.

You are assuming that one has a fixed schedule. Very often a person may negotiate a no-cost change in return date as part of the VDB offer. A person based in HNL may also look at the offer as an opportunity to spend an additional day at WAS without cost. It is also the case, for many, that $250 is nothing to sneeze at -- for the starving student, for example, it might cover a ticket, which could otherwise not be pruchased, to go visit a friend.

Something odd here. Take a look at the flight tracks. The diversion to IAH does not appear to be an action based on some sudden inflight problem; certainly not a problem which would prevent extended over land operation. Perhaps a problem which would prevent safe ocean crossing that only IAH is equiped to repair.
Could be someone that lives in HNL and would enjoy an extra day in SFO. And it's not as if SFO is Siberia (or *ahem* Witchita.. )
I can't imagine anyone giving up a day in Hawaii. (even residents!)
No, the observation is valid, though i will say that after months/years of living on the mainland, getting back to home to paradise is not something you want to delay by a day.
Though I guess the bay area isn't as bad as getting stuck in New Jersey for an extra day in December.
